Bill1977
It’s about reducing risk. It’s not a surprise that this has sparked a few negative comments. TT and Covid polarise people like few other topics.

It doesn't stop people being infected though. isn't a vaccine supposed to stop infection ? maybe it should be called an inhibitor ??

Not necessarily and as usual nothing is 100% in medicine. Some vaccines prevent infection in the vast majority cases by arming the bodies immune system against the pathogen, but all vaccines also use that protection to lessen the effect of such infection. With the current Covid vaccines there's evidence of infection being reduced substantially after vaccination, but that gradually fading over subsequent months. So far protection against Covid coming more serious seems to have held up much better over a longer period.

Take the chip off your shoulder. I couldn't attend my parents' funerals during the lockdowns. It was shit. Life moves on through. Bill1977
Sorry for your losses. Hopefully future deaths from the virus will be minimal (any death is hard to take for the families involved).

You could always move to Beijing. You’ll be able to wallow in at least another 5 years of covid hysteria there. https://www.manxradio.com/news/world-news/beijing-chief-says-city-to-maintain-zero-covid-policy-for-next-five-years-before-time-reference-removed/

Substantial reduction... https://www.manxradio.com/news/isle-of-man-news/covid-r-number-falls-sharply/ Possibly though, looking at the report, other indications (eg wastewater) suggest the drop may not have been as dramatic. Also there are 21 people are in Hospital who tested positive up from 18 last week. Now the really good news here is that only 2 of these were admitted for Covid (from 4 last week). This is a relief as usually the high level of infection suggested we might see more hospitalisation this week, especially with the anecdotal evidence that a lot of people seemed to be fairly badly affected. But the fact that of those admitted for other reasons, the number infected has risen from 14 to 19 might suggest it hasn't dropped as much in the general population. Has there been any change in reporting procedures, such as 111 hours? Of course if the positive admissions were skewed to the earlier part of the reporting week that would suggest a fall now. The low number of admissions 'for' does suggest the effects of this latest wave have not been as serious as they might and the peak may have passed. But as previously seen, it's not been without any effects and the lesson is that living with Covid isn't the same as living ignoring it. Two more deaths are reported - neither in hospital, one in 80s one in 60s - though as always they may not be in the last week. 1
ellanvannin2010
Nearly everyone I know of that has caught it since TT has not knowingly contracted COVID before. Very unscientific I know but it could be one of the many variables at play
