Was with a family member in Chester street yesterday & there seems plenty of capacity there with nurses waiting for people to come through, the flu station with nurse had no one through in time we were there

Was the same on 30 September. No queue. Straight in. Vaccination delivery staff in cubicles waiting, for both covid and flu. In and out in less than 5 minutes.

They really should open up to drop in again.

in fact, when I was in getting jabbed there were 4 booths with nurses waiting, and just me!

Interesting , as I had emailed the vaccination center last monday and got a reply very quickly basicaly saying my group should have started on the 10th Oct but the vaccine has not been made available yet for the group. I'm away for quite awhile soon for a Covid cancelled holiday from 2020 so of course want it sorted in good time ideally.

Interesting the priority 5 booster injections were due to start on 10th October but letters havent started to go out yet apparently. Could be a panic on shortly to get them done if infections keep rising .

Strange. Both my wife and I had the letter at the end of September and had our 5th jab on the 6th of October!

This was a topic in the pub after work last night, started by someone asking what “justice for the jabbed” was having spotted them branching out to Cooil Road roundabout.  They sure are committed.!

Anyway, the consensus seemed to be that the majority aren’t bothered anymore and won’t be having boosters.  All but one have already had COVID at least once and none were really bothered if they get it again.  I was supeised how many hadn’t bothered with the second or third jabs last year.  The vast majority had had at least one and for most who had had the second it was so they could travel rather than because they really wanted it.

I guess that won’t be the same on MF where the average age will be significantly higher than at work.

Indeed , here is the email received on the day it was to start.

Thank you for your email.

The proposed start date for your priority group was today, but we have not been advised that the autumn booster has been made available to your priority group just yet. Please be assured that when the autumn booster is made available to your priority group you will be contacted.

The delay is for the Priority 5 group - effectively those aged 65-69 inclusive without any medical conditions.  So if you're a bit older or in a high-risk group like John, you would already have been seen.

Wonder what the hold up is? Shortage of vaccine/nurses to inject?

Take up seems slow.

We are waiting for Paul to be called. He’s 53, but was prioritised previously as he lives with me and it was thought that would help protect me. They’ve changed that prioritisation. He’s had one booster in December 2021.

He’s only going to get it because he wants to go skiing for 8-10 weeks, and is worried about getting locked down in resort without an up to date booster/passport.

He escaped the resort in March 2020 just 48 hours before it was closed down, cordoned by armed police, no one in or out, and Brits escorted out by coach over 10 days and put on planes home. As he’s taking the mutts that’d be inconvenient.

We've even had the mutts issued with EU pet passports in Spain. The last AHC we had cost over £300. The passports cost €35 each in Spain. We had their rabies jabs updated in Dublin in September, 3 year validity. €35 each plus £250 return ferry fare. So will be in pocket after the first trip in 2023 with them.

A family friend the same age as me had his 4th booster in the UK a two weeks ago. Even he said that this time round there are less places to go to in order to get the booster and that in general the NHS doesn’t seem that bothered. He only got his as he’s away on holiday next month and thought it might be easier to avoid any potential complications with travel. If that’s the only sort or justification that people can find now I’m nit sure I’ll be bothering.

They seem to have had a complete change of plan and rather than working their way through the groups have now announced:

The vaccination programme is open to all Island residents in the following categories:

  • Aged 50 and over
  • Pregnant
  • At higher risk due to health condition
  • Immunosuppressed
  • A frontline health and social care worker
  • A carer

There are also walk-in sessions from next week.

Yes. But the booking system has crashed and Paul is 15th in the queue on 111

It's just worked for me, though there were no appointments before 8 November.  If all else fails Paul could try his luck with the walk-ins.

(There's a lot of "Please, please don't ring 111" on the website. But of course you won't know that if it's down).

I tried 5 times. Agreed to accept short notice. Error notice after last click. He’s got 8/11 appointment by phone. May go for drop in the week before and cancel.

Its so not joined up.

1. Will they eventually open up to everyone who has had a prior jab?

2. If so what are peoples guesses on uptake?  I would say 40 percent on the basis that most who had the first ones did so because they had to to travel and much less concern now.

1. Yes.

2. I had mine because im still clinically vulnerable. Paul is having his because he’s off on extended skiing in January February March. In 2020 the resort was locked down and no one was allowed in or out for a fortnight. We’d been tipped off and he left two days before. Hopefully there won’t be a wave or a lock down, but if there is then being fully vaccinated and boosted May help.

Manx Radio has the walk in sessions starting on 25/10, the govt news release says 01/11 just to add to the confusion.
