IOM Covid removing restrictions

I noted Guernsey have taken ownership of the latest testing hardware in preparation of their move to Level 5C (testing on entry).

It would seem they are still giving serious consideration to moving up the levels despite the problems within the UK.

They will adopt a traffic light system similar to Jersey in which arrivals from certain countries will be allowed unrestricted movement following a negative test on entry (further test on 5 or 7 days).

Perhaps Mr. Quayle will be providing the Manx people with an update on the procurement of such equipment here & their plans for implementation.

Guernsey have had a traffic light system since they (re)opened their borders and those who have been in Group A countries/regions in the last 14 days have to self-isolate for 14 days in any case.  This now includes all of the UK except Southern England outside London.  The principle of their list only differs from Jersey's in that the latter get very (and probably pointlessly) detailed as to exact areas.

About moving to Phase 5c they say themselves:

It must be stressed that no decision has been made on when Phase 5c will be introduced. It may be weeks or even months away, and also remains possible that the Bailiwick moves back to earlier phases of lockdown before it continues to move forward.

(their bold).  I actually suspect this won't now happen until late next Spring at the earliest.  Even assuming the infrastructure is in place reasonably quickly, the rising levels of infection in other countries will mean that the vast majority will be Group A and have to isolate anyway.  The whole thing looks more like a political gesture because people have been complaining that they should be 'more like Jersey'.  And a rather expensive gesture at that[1].

I keep on making these points about how Guernsey and Jersey operate or intend to operate their Covid systems, complete with quotes and links to their official websites and the same people continue to pronounce on what they think the situation is in those places based on what I can only assume are the voices in their heads, which they somehow think are more authoritative.  It's a bit annoying.

[1]  See section Testing in Phase 5c: In terms of costs, the testing of travellers in Phase 5c for a six month period is forecast to cost approximately £3.7m, plus a capital cost of £600k.  I'm also not really convinced that self-swabbing is that reliable if you don't do the testing for human RNA etc that we do on the Island to make sure that a valid sample has been taken.

The media is not helping anyone in this mess, printing conflicting opinions by so called experts, figures that can not be authenticated, and generally causing mistrust, fear, exasperation.   Gutter press at it’s worst.   If no one watched the news, ditched papers and just got on with their lives I think we would be in a better position in six months time.  I still think we should take sensible precautions and keep the borders restricted and accept and enjoy the position we are in, many people would give anything to be able to be in this state.

Some of us like reading the papers and disseminating the lies being told. Do you sit in your house with a tinfoil hat on lapping up every aspect of the doom and gloom and general misinformation spreading? No wonder you work in compliance. No need to think just follow that government tick-box.

Why would you disseminate lies?

Thanks for your constructive feedback on what I should and should not be able to post on an unedited forum which is allegedly for the purpose of debating. If people don’t want students to come back my point was that they are Manx and they should be allowed to come back for several reasons. Not least that many won’t have options to stay in the UK over the holiday period. The day that we start treating our own as basically unclean and unfit to return (if that is what some posters were suggesting) is the day the IOM has totally lost it IMHO.

They already done that back in March when they closed the borders to everyone manx or otherwise,  so they have already lost it. remember the Comis /Police escorts /Guards patroling the grounds/ Searching peoples baggage, Yes they lost it all right.

Strange that Banker also states I work in compliance... one could be forgiven for thinking you are one and the same :whistling:

For the record, I don't work in compliance. Hate to burst your bubble...
