Exactly right, a lot of employers will not let you return even after the 7 days negative test.

Alright for wealthy retirees like PK & his mates

In Jersey it is similar. A lot will not let you back after test on arrival. Many will not even let you back until 14 days are complete.

So in real £numbers how is the economy going right now?

We won't know for a while.

All we have right now is conversations with people in day to day life (lots are struggling) and unemployment figures, which are bad now and will be worse next week post mera.

To be confirmed but it won't be great.

Lots of unemployment happening.   Natwest Group getting rid of 40 plus.  HSBC let a whole floor go.  Other companies .  I know of a recently advertised admin position attracting 150 ish applicants.  That's a concern.

A lot of companies based here rely on movement of employees and expertise.  Business development etc.  It's ok for smug pensioners to sit in their "I'm alright jack " bubble but really the whole thing is utterly shameful.

Loads of job adverts are getting well over 100 applicants.

Those will be the 900 people on Mera who will next week be added to the unemployment figures.

Open the borders in a sensible, controlled and risk assessed way for gods sake.

How much has that got to do with the borders being restricted to residents only?

Because the last few pages seem to be about how they effect folks personal circumstances...

Loads.  Have you actually read the thread?

Do you fancy answering any the questions asked of you/responses to your posts?

I asked how many of these redundancies etc were down to the border restrictions and not the general effect of the virus / brexit?

Really?  Here we go again.

There aren’t and likely won’t ever be accurate figures on this.

in my day to day life I visit loads of workplaces and speak to loads of people.

Lots are citing the border restrictions for non residents, as well as the isolation periods imposed on returning residents, as reasons why they are losing staff, can’t attract staff from off island, and are considering downsizing  or relocating.

Industries that need specialist skills (who are normally well placed to locate here, and the gaming industry that has lots of people who live here but travel regularly back to the UK, South Africa, Israel etc to see family seem to be being particularly hard hit.

As is health care, social services and manufacturing.

No one I speak to has mentioned Brexit. Purely the lack of sensible and risk controlled freedom of movement.
