"The individual, who recently travelled to the Island, is in self-isolation which will last for a further 14 days." Travelled not returned, was it one of those "key workers" that apparently we couldn't do without? " is in self-isolation which will last for a further 14 days." - "The contact tracing team is working to identify and speak with anyone who may have come into close contact with the affected person." - That does indeed sound like it could be a community risk. As has been already pointed out that just seems to be the standard wording to reassure everyone , though obviously it had the opposite effect because they didn't think what they were saying. What I suspect they mean is that are contacting everyone who might have been on the same flight or sailing just to check. This won't be someone who has been in the community but some one who has had the test after a week. The giveaway is that 'a further 14 days' - if they had fallen ill and needed testing it wouldn't be the automatic 14 days. So obviously not one of the Tesco Five. AcousticallyChallenged
UK Gov't being their usual wonderful selves, today's headline figure is 12.8k total. The caveat being that's including figures that were missed since the 24th of September. Looks like they're really starting to go belly up over there. This brings Thursday into the realm of approx 9k, a huge leap over previous days. Bear in mind this is to be added to over the next few days too. 38 were from tests taken yesterday 3,654 Thurs (34%) 1,313 Wed (12%) 558 Tues (5%) 618 Mon 1,263 Sun 794 last Sat 550 last Fri 724 last Thurs 721 last Wed 153 last Tues 69 last Mon 257 last Sun 94 from prior Edited October 3, 2020 by AcousticallyChallenged

You can see for yourself here (its an annoying xls doc) the hospital admissions. It isn't cataclysmic doom, but there is no doubt that there is a steady rise. https://www.england.nhs.uk/statistics/statistical-work-areas/covid-19-hospital-activity/

Total number in hospitals is here: As are the number in ventilator beds (numbers in ICU will be higher as not everyone in ICU requires assistance to breath): Both are 5-6 times what we saw at the start of September. I believe some ICUs are already under pressure. And here are the deaths, approaching 50 a day now - again about 5 times what they were at the start of September: All predictable from the rise in cases, but running several weeks behind. The Dog's Dangly Bits
There will be. But it's fairly insignificant numbers. They should publish the uk hospital admissions for all reasons for context.

thommo2010
Can anyone explain why they need to announce anytime there is a new case? The same goes for the uk why the need to announce every day the amount of positive cases?

It's only 95% accurate in patients who are already symptomatic. Asking "do you have a sore throat" would have a similar level of accuracy. 1

Everyone would be demanding the data anyway, thinking that the government were "hiding" it. The UK government just update the numbers on coronavirus.data.gov.uk and the press take it from there.

Makes no sense at all. You should be free to do anything.
