Please, do tell me more about how low the risk of opening up the borders to non residents is as they'll all be sure to stick to our quarantine rules!

Well, they have largely done it so far because there are actual consequences of they don't.

Reduce the isolation time and increase testing.  Its about balancing risk again benefit and we have been WAY to Conservative so far.

There is zero reason people shouldn't be allowed to visit and isolate.

Well for a start , they can’t jump on a train to go over the borders to France, there’s nothing to stop someone leaving quarantine to go to ports directly and leave the IOM

Don’t have the vaccinators filling in forms or having long conversations about the rights or wrongs of the vaccine.

That makes sense and will aid the flow of people through the process. Its a bit like organising the Pre Assessment Clinics in Nobles. We could have used this time to vaccinate health care staff in this way. But we didn't.

Spain announcing this morning data on those refusing vaccine to be kept and shared with other countries - according to BBC news.

Wonder if UK will do likewise.

Not too clear on how the information could be collated and what / how it will be used ?

Yep

I would put money on us still having excessive border policies that restrict peoples ability to do business well past things being largely back to normal in the UK.

Loads of people are leaving (economically active people who contribute to the skills pool and economy) and being replaced by retirees.

Businesses that were due to come here are going elsewhere.  They need to get on top of it ASAP and come up with some USPs to get people over here.

That has to include relatively free movement in and out

This was something of a concern long before Covid. The Island was having relatively little success in attracting meaningful new business. And there has been a reluctance to release any meaningful data on the profile of the seven hundred or so that allegedly arrived since March. And of course, the presence of the likes of Pokerstars was gradually diminishing.

Its a really difficult landscape at the moment. Has the IOM Govt got any better at the inward investment game during Covid?

Discuss/.

Skelly & co keep saying we have lots of interest in business relocating to IOM but nothing much announced other than a new egaming company a few months ago.

Not many young families coming over mainly retired people who are relocating to be near family who live here. This will be why government don’t want to give statistics on who is coming here

The Government did release statistics a couple of weeks back which largely confirmed your post. I think it raised a Keys question (from Shimmins?) as to a lack of information on demographics on precisely who and what the immigrants are....but they are old, in the main.

Anecdotally, in my experience, recent arrivals are far more likely to fall and break their hip than they are to set up a business and contribute to GDP.
