Anecdotally, in my experience, recent arrivals are far more likely to fall and break their hip than they are to set up a business and contribute to GDP.

Just FWIW I'm in a relatively affluent retirement part of Cornwall - we're a big employer of builders, gardeners, carpenters etc.

Every house that's bought gets a renovation whether needed or not.

You never know - if the Golf Links apartments ever materialise I'll think about a return.

There's a half page ad in today's Times, other papers are available, that is encouraging folk to move here. I wish people would just stay put until we all have the jab.

We desperately need staff in lots of areas.

Current adverts include nurses on 70k a year with free accommodation and wofi etc, relocation packages and full pay while they do the 14 day isolation.

Skills shortages in lots of areas and almost zero risk of people coming over if they isolate.

Anyone had the covid test at the grandstand, is it painful?

Yes. I’ve had three in total, one in Spain €135, one in England £289 and one at the Grandstand £25. With a second due at the grandstand next week.

Not painful. Mildly uncomfortable. You stay in your car at the grandstand and the nurse takes the swab sample.

There is now talk that Tier 4 isn’t working and that the U.K. will introduce Tier 5 ( lockdown by another name) early in 2021

It’s that, U.K. incidence rates, not IoM vaccination rates, that will dictate when we open borders.

Just been calls for it in an article on Sky News. Transmissibility of new variant is raising great concerns and almost 20,000 NHS beds are now Covid-blocked on top of the normal concerns.

Recent arrivals will be coming with a bank or two full of money and by definition will be leaving relatives a long way off. They will in the not too distant future be looking for an estate to be wound up and pored over.

Athol Street* like those sort of people.

*Other streets are available but the tag remains.

This indicates why you need an appropriate number of staff; wrong dosage, problems with temperature controlled delivery, etc.

[MF Mode]This shows why Merkel is an idiot.  She should not have rolled out this programme without proper training for those doing it, and if she'd read the instructions properly instead of shredding them then this wouldn't have happened.  If only the Germans had copied Jersey's model they'd be doing fine and have the largest economy in the world by now.[/MF mode]

Maybe but they are not pouring that money into health which is what they will be draining with their related old age demands and free prescriptions!
