I think you need to spend a bit of time somewhere - anywhere - else for a few weeks, then you will see IoM is not so bad, even in its lockdown. Sorry if that sounds patronising, but I think you have lost a sense of perspective. . So explain to me why my relatives who want to come here and spend time with their family can't do so if they are prepared to isolate and take all the required tests. There is no justification and its inhumane

Those are some pretty big (and inaccurate) assumptions you are making there People keep saying I could travel there or they could travel here Noone has yet given a valid reason whybwe can't do level 3 with proper testing
ButterflyMaiden
Gosh, its so long since I was regular on this forum. Ive been a returnee lurker though, ever since the beginning of the pandemic. Dave and I had so many good friends in the IOM. I really am so sorry to learn you are in lockdown again and I will say a little prayer to hope you return to normal life again soon. The IOM was so special to us. Where have all the familiar names gone? I think I can remember the lovely Ans, also Slim(?), Chinahand, Glad To Be Back (now Gladys?) and more than a few more. Just take care and be safe all of you xx

Gladys
Test, test, test. Trace, trace, trace. If we were doing more of the first, we could have been doing the second. It is shocking how defeat has been clutched from the jaws of victory because of egos and petty minds. I really hope the press push for answers on this at the next briefing and that there is an independent enquiry. Is there any MHK who will lead the charge on this? 12

But both parts passed. I've read that whole thing, you're not wrong about extraordinary attitudes. In light of where we are now everyone who has a concern should read it, and seriously consider punching 'Howie' square in the face the next time the see him.

The Government are going to have a problem if there transpires to be zero community spread identified in the coming weeks. To me, this is exactly why we should have followed the pathway laid down by Government, below. Very simple steps: 1) We think we have a small cluster and we don't know how big it could be, we are up to 6 positives. 2) We therefore move to Amber alert and introduce new social distancing measures with compulsory mask wearing in public places. But groups of up to X households can socialise together and can eat or drink out together. 3) IF and only when we detect any element of community transmission, then we consider a lockdown. There's only so many times we can go for this 'hard and fast' approach. It will become tiresome and grind down the economy each time it happens. They didn't follow that plan because they changed to an elimination strategy from a live with it strategy. New Zealand, Singapore, China and Australia also follow this strategy where you go in hard and aggressive and snuff out the virus. All of these places realise that this short term pain is worth the gain in the long term. Let's hope the Government learn from this situation. Given how bristly Quayle became when Glover was mentioned today I doubt they will. It takes the bigger man to hold their hands up and say I got it wrong I'm sorry. My concern is not the £10,000,000 it's going to costs the Manx taxpayer, it's the potential lives it could cost us. All because a few civil servants thought they knew best.

Don't forget it's only £10m in MERA and Salary Support. Treasury - naturally - isn't including loss of income during the period. Less alcohol sales (maybe), less VAT the lot. Let's hope so...we're probably only a day or so away from community spread again. All avoidable, if only they had implemented 2nd week testing in Nov when advised by Dr Rachael Glover. Some politicians and personalities need their arses kicked.
