Or maybe somebody's finally twigged that half of what's getting built is being sold to off-Island B2L investors? And that bona fide local buyers are in short supply and/or priced out of the market at least partly on account of it?

Yes that’s part of problem as well which is why government via Thomas are getting involved to provide more housing to those who need it & enhance support schemes for buyers

That's exactly what's happening, the demand is being driven by outside influences to the detriment of the locals. Additionally "local" employers with oodles of cash are buying up properties for their staff and renting them out. As is the case with the new Ballasallla development I believe.

The new dandara houses are being sold as b2l to people In the UK and rented out through dandara.  Quite the grip they have on the property market

There's one reason and one reason only that RTC seek this and it's Rates revenue take which according to the Inquiry's own parameters is the one thing that the Inquiry doesn't consider.

Posting as a Ramsey resident, RTC is only known for expansion in two other respects;

1) the size of its annual Rates Demands and

2) the use of that Rates revenue for no appreciable improvement or betterment in the town.

Only a couple of weeks ago I was also talking to an acquaintance who takes a keen interest in Ramsey's affairs and governance (and has done for years) who claimed that there are serious questions needing to be asked about RTC's financial incoming and outgoings.

There is nothing tangible improving in the town relating to RTC in recent years and in some respects it's getting worse (they can't even find the motivation or money to fix the bathing raft on the beach, for instance), yet the financial demands keep on rising. I noted that they've stopped supplying the expenditure piechart with the Rates Demands as well now. Perhaps after the revelation of last year that it costs nudging £1M a year in "admin costs" for Ramsey Town Hall.

Wilf has found a firm that is kindly offered to mend the raft for nowt.

If so, that is good news because otherwise it would just lie in their yard until it rotted away. RTC reputedly constructed the thing, how on earth they have come up with the reported repair estimate of £7k is anybody's guess.

Do you mean MHK’s?

Neither, John. Though it was interesting to hear to contributors to the piece on MR saying that RTC can't look after their present responsibilities, let alone take on more.
