Amadeus
Very sad to hear that James Randi has died. https://web.randi.org/ His work exposing fraudsters and charlatans is more important than ever these days. If you have never watched anything by him, please go on youtube and check out all the talks and shows he made: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=james+randi
prism10
Are you sure he has died? I'm sceptical. 😉

Amadeus
Geller is a bottom feeding scumbag. I remember how huge he was when I grew up. Always on German TV shows. Ridiculous when you think about it now. Randi got him right as being nothing but a cheap fraudster.
quilp
Even better, imo, was Randi's brilliant exposé of fraudulent 'faith-healer' Peter Popoff (sic). Classic sting on a cruel con-man.

John Wright
It’s odd how Randi was taken in by, or complicit in, the deception practised by his boyfriend/partner/spouse who stole the identity of someone else for years.
quilp
In this case, after seeing an in-depth interview with Randi, where he talked about the boyfriend, love made him blind.

Chinahand
In my view religion is always and everywhere a psychological issue and as Feynman says we are the easiest person to fool. Especially when it comes to following the CORRECT religion and being bestowed the benefits there of. Randy was a master at pricking that delusional bubble with clarity and a magicians eye for the trickster. He’ll be sadly missed the world needs more Randy the Magnificents! quilp
Agree there China, although some of us follow no religion because for an atheist there are no benefits to any of them on an individual and personal level. Faith, belief, it's a matter of choice and how far one's imagination can stretch and adhere. Popoff showed clearly how religion corrupts the minds of the vulnerable and the desperate. And America is full of evangelicals with heavenly bank accounts. Scary stuff.

Just as long as you remember that nihilistic atheism is a religion along with all the theistic religions. "There is no god" is a theological statement of faith. You're not agnostics. It's a testament to the gullibility of society that Uri Geller and Peter Popoff have continued to sell their nonsense and exploit people long after being exposed as massive frauds. I don't think people taken in by them are stupid, they're just lacking in critical thinking skills and use of logic and reason. I don't agree with atheism but I do sympathise with the atheists' opposition to religious irrationalism.
