Spat between Chief Minister and Dr Glover

Oh, here we go, the urgent question will be "Julie Edge MHK to ask the chief minister if he will make a statement on the resignation of Dr Glover from DHSC". Which is getting right into the detail.

Also getting in on the act of serious scrutiny of Tynwald, and not at all being asked just because the other Onchan MHK is asking one, Rob Callister is to ask urgently of the CM "If he will make a statement on the impact on Manx residents of the latest lockdown announcement in the UK".

This is the state of Manx politics in the middle of a global pandemic. Utterly utterly hopless.

Rob Callister MHK (Onchan), BA Hons, Bronze Swimming Badge - to ask urgently
"If he will make a statement on the impact on Manx residents of the latest lockdown announcement in the UK and the implications this might have on the price of stamps, and what pretty pictures are listed to appear on the future editions of stamps. I like stamps"

Decent tone from Moulton there. Challenging the absurdity of reading out letters because someone feels a little aggrieved they hadn't received a pat on the back.

I used to think Ashford had acquitted himself reasonably well so far this year. He's now joined the ranks of the other sub standard officials we have making decisions on our behalf.

Let's make no mistake here. The Chief Minister and Health Minister are not serious people who make important decisions. They just sign orders prepared for them by unelected civil servants who operate behind the scenes. This is why voting is a waste of time as you're only replacing one lot of rubber stampers with another lot. Their competence or how good they look or sound is meaningless. They're just amateur actors posing as decision-makers.

Which is why, to be fair, we have elected officials. To hopefully push back on the unelected bureaucracy. However by having so many MHK's and paying them an average salary we have a job lot of average people who are ill suited to the job.

Cut down the numbers, pay them a lot more and they may get people interested who are fit for purpose, who would otherwise be paid a lot more in the private sector. Those are the brains you want in them kind of positions.

And there was I congratulating him on his MBE. He’s nothing but a monkey.

He certainly hasn't covered himself with glory in this instance.

Whatever the rights or wrongs about this issue with Rachel it should not have got as far as it did.

If your only response to deflect criticism is to use someone else to cover up for your failings then you shouldn't really be in that position.

Anywhere other than government and he would probably have been shown the door.
