He appears to be cast in the mould of Quayle in also believing that he's capable of addressing topics cogently, but in a manner which, in reality, illustrates his ignorance, not his wisdom.

Wonderfully put. Know your limits, and exercise them.

Quayle was on the news earlier about Ministers should not be interfering in 'operational' day to day matters and the associated dangers for politicians of doing so. Has he told DA that yet.

Quayle said that so he can’t be blamed for anything that went wrong with steam packet as he left it to officers to carry instructions!

I wonder, with Magson not being based on Island, how many operational decisions were pushed Ashford's way.

I listened to both evidence sessions yesterday and Magson was very good at saying it's not about her making decision it's about the senior management team making them. So took no responsibility.

Ashford did his usual debating style technique of saying a lot of words without saying anything and would go off topic regularly. The "letter" was discussed for which he put the blame squarely on the press for misinterpreting what he actually said.

Hasn't it always been that way? Its the way the Ministers work isn't it?  In Tynwald, when questioned, they regurgitate what they are told by their civil servants. The only other option would be for the Civil servants all be there. Its a bit rubbish and a bit silly but I can't see how it could be done any other way.

Well it's not really even the way that things worked here in the past at the start of the ministerial system or before that when things were run by Boards.  And of course it's not the way things work in other countries.

Once Ministers would actually make the decisions based weighing up the advice they were given or had sought out and take responsibility if they were the wrong ones.  Now they see their job as rubber-stamping whatever they are given and are happy with that and indeed seem to believe that this is the only way in which things can be run.  And no one takes any responsibility.

He doesn’t think he is a medic, scientist or expert. I’ve not listened to it all but on at least a couple of occasions he says he is not a scientist but a layman (or words to that effect)

What would you say are his key skills?

No one probably. So what?

Well in this instance Ashford should be seeking a professional scientific opinion from someone equally as qualified as Dr Glover, rather than try to rubbish Dr Glovers claims with his own opinion.

And you honestly think they don't?
