In any project involving the elderly it's common sense to know that many will be relying on lifts and public transport and also that it's hard-wired into the elderly to 'get there early to get a good seat' or the other hard-wire of 'we daren't be late and what happens if the car/bus breaks down, so lets get there early out of courtesy/respect. 

Instead of blaming the vulnerable it may have been prudent to look at their own lack of forethought.

And did anyone, while sitting around the big hardwood table with their tea, coffee, bottled water and jammie dodgers during the 'what could possibly go wrong' segment, moot that having a facility for the vulnerable running alongside arrivals from the country with the highest infected and deaths IN THE WORLD, might, possibly be a risk not worth taking?

And in any case, there'd have been several meetings prior to that to decide what biscuits to have at that meeting where none of the above would have even been on the agenda anyway.

Johnson & Johnson Covid vaccine is 66% effective overall with one dose for moderate to severe disease 

It is 85% effective against most serious symptoms

 

The vaccine worked better in the US 72% effective against moderate to severe Covid-19

57% effective in South Africa against the new variant there

 

The above is from a single dose regime

 

The UK has pre-ordered 30 m doses of the vaccine.

 

A major trial is underway in the UK where two doses of the Janssen (J&J’s vaccine division) jab are being given.

Whilst still significant protection, it doesn't seem to be in the same league as the  mRNA products of Pfizer or Moderna. The AZ/Oxford jab uses the same adenovirus technology and as this J&J vaccine.

In an article I've just read, Dr. Paul Offit, a vaccine expert at the University of Pennsylvania and a member of the FDA's Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee, said :

 '"In a better world, we would have abundant quantities of this messenger RNA vaccine, Pfizer and Moderna, and that would be damning for a vaccine that's clearly less effective. But that said, we have limited quantities of mRNA vaccine,"

and rather incredibly...

"Not being able to get it, and knowing I might not be able to get Pfizer or Moderna for many months, and knowing this virus is still ranging across the country, I would take J&J in the secure knowledge that I could get Pfizer or Moderna later."

The mRNA vaccines do seem to be the 'gold standard' product.

Well clearly the people who put this together don't have any elderly relatives themselves either, because if they have they'd be subjecting their own family to this crap as well.

Their elderly relatives could have been in the 500 or so over-80s who got the Pfizer vaccine at Ward 20.

Irrespective.... none of them would have given a thought to people of any age standing outside in the wind and rain. There were people there in wheelchairs.
