Although at airport they are telling people not to drive for 15 minutes after jabs

My partner had her second dose at the airport yesterday and was not told not to drive. It was as it was the first time down there; very little in the way of a constantly moving queue, in on time, out in less than 5 minutes. Fast and efficient.

I suspect that's just standard practice for any vaccination, especially given the age profile of current patients.  The Pfizer one is more specific, it doesn't just apply to drivers and someone is supposed to be keeping an eye on them.  It's pretty clear in the UK advice:

Period of observation following immunisation with COVID-19 vaccine

Following COVID-19 vaccine administration, individuals should be observed for any immediate reactions whilst they are receiving any verbal post vaccination information  (such as possible reactions and what, if anything, to do about these). They, or their carers, should also be informed where they can obtain further advice if they require it following vaccination.

It is recommended that individuals are observed for a minimum of 15 minutes following administration of the Pfizer BioNTech and Moderna vaccines. There is no requirement for 15 minutes observation following the AstraZeneca vaccine. However, as fainting can occur following vaccination, all those vaccinated with any of the COVID-19 vaccines should either be driven by someone else or should not drive for 15 minutes after vaccination.

The 15 minute observation is only required after the first jab (anaphylactic shock). If you don't react to the first jab, you are unlikely to react to the second.

4.7 cases of anaphylaxis per million doses of the Pfizer jab. It can happen on the second dose.

Mrs Q just had a 'come to think of it...' moment and has remembered that she was asked about driving- whether she was by herself and when she said no, the response was 'that's ok then you can go immediately' she remembers other people were doing their 15mins in a waiting area.

Despite all that is going on today, and the undeniable fact that we now have a degree of community transmission, the vaccination dashboard shows that we only have 1 (yes, ONE) person booked in for tomorrow, yet there are almost 9000 in the cupboard, stored for second doses.

Surely, now that they have accepted the extended interval between doses is OK, those 9000 should be arms, NOW, and we'll worry about stock replenishment in the weeks ahead?

Totally agree, most countries have moved away from the policy of keeping enough stock for second doses as supplies are regular

684 booked in for today mostly 1st doses.

Agreed. But then we have five days with only two! If those 9000 were already in peoples' arms, given the science and evidence, from elsewhere we'd have more people significantly protected, and might notbe facing such draconian measures today.

I agree, with the caveat that a lot of the stock in hand allocated for second jabs will be Pfizer, given that more of that has been administered so far. The dosage schedule for that remains 3 weeks, and that, along with the touted supply problems for Pfizer, would make the supply more vulnerable if they weren't to reserve the second doses. The AZ ones should be going into arms.
