Roger Mexico
So Edge's question is basically just asking for an update, though I doubt much has changed since September. To be fair it isn't even the dumbest MNH-related question asked to Skelly in this Tynwald. That probably goes to (how did you guess?): The Hon. Member for Arbory, Castletown and Malew (Mr Moorhouse) to ask the Minister for Enterprise – “If he will publish the Minutes of the 2019 Annual General Meeting of The Friends of Manx National Heritage?” It then has to be explained gently to him that FMNH are a separate charity over whom Tynwald has no control. It is differently you, We have now had Mrs Caine bring this question up in the Budget. Now the Peoples Prince has been on Manx Radio about this. Too little to late comes to mind. Will the freinds of DfE on here who criticized the question from Ms Edge, be so nice to these MHKs whom have jumped on the bandwagon! then want to try and convince everyone they have brought it to the publics attention and got the work done

Holte End
https://www.tynwald.org.im/business/hansard/20002020/t210119.pdf The answers states "MNH has submitted its grant bid for 2021-2022 and awaits Tynwald’s decision in February" I missed Mr Callister Budget speech, so I presume he made a fight for funding for Laxey wheel like Mrs Caine did. Especially when the cost to repair are nearly half a million pounds according to his Manx Radio interview, https://www.manxradio.com/news/isle-of-man-news/laxey-wheel-unlikely-to-turn-this-year-mnh-trustee/ Edited February 21, 2021 by Holte End

When Laxey was a mining village many years ago, There were 600 miners working under Captain Rowe The bottom of the mineshaft was below the water line So they had to build a wheel to pump the water from the mine. (Chorus1) And the Laxey Wheel keeps turning, turning, turning, In Lady Isabella's memory, And while the water flows The Laxey Wheel still goes And the Laxey river runs down to the sea. For three quarters of a century there were fortunes lost and found As miners dug the lead and zinc from underneath the ground, Then came a great depression in 1929 And the miners drew their wages for the last time at the mine. (Chorus1) But the Laxey Wheel kept turning, turning, turning, In Lady Isabella's memory, And while the water flows The Laxey Wheel still goes And the Laxey river runs down to the sea. She turned another 90 years through wind snow rain and drought Tourists came from far and near to have a good day out Then came the great pandemic of covid-19 The budget for needed repairs was suddenly quite lean. (chorus2) So the Laxey Wheel stopped turning, turning, turning. For the first time in our living memory And though the water flows The Wheel no longer goes You cannot fix a water wheel for free. A time will come when visitors will flock back to our shores The Laxey Wheel will turn again it will stand still no more Until that day's upon us, they all will understand For Lady Isabella will always be quite grand! (chorus3) The Laxey Wheel will someday resume turning. The bad times will be just a memory The Laxey Wheel will turn The water it will churn And visitors will all be there to see. Apologies to Stuart Slack.

Not such a stupid question now. To think there are people sticking their hands in their pockets to pay £8 for something that doesn’t work. If it works perhaps MNH should charge over £10 to recoup taxpayers funding.

It is astonishing to me that the recently departed MNH Exec was given funding to demolish the Manx Folklife Gallery rather than keep the Laxey Wheel turning
