It was stopped.

21 October 2019 From the section Motorsport:

The Isle of Man TT Zero race had been dropped for the next two years, the Manx government has said.

[...]However a "moratorium" has been placed on the electric motorcycle class for 2020 and 2021.

I'm not saying that means it will reappear, but the DfE will need to say why.

Hybrid cars were mass produced by some of the worlds largest car manufacturers for 17 years before the technology was introduced into F1. The relevance of that introduction is obvious.

Electric bikes are yet to be seriously mass produced and were introduced to the TT 13 years ago.

Do you see the difference?

There was an "E" class at either MotoGP or WSB until a couple of years ago when a lithium fire consumed the entire field in a shipping container (or something). It has yet to be resurrected.

A simple google search reveals that it was in the garage overnight. It was a battery charger charging a lithium starter battery (although reports vary).  Left on overnight by mistake. Nothing to do with changing batteries of e bikes in the pits.

But don't the ICE bikes only manage 2 laps at a time. Not that much difference is it. You could easily change a battery as quickly as you fill a tank couldn't you?

They don't carry "a" battery though, it's lots of separate cells (in addition to being "built into" the bike) which precludes any quick change?

why would it catch fire. I think I'd rather take my chances with a simmering electrical fire from a little battery than a tankful of petrol

Well, you've just indicated how little you understand the nature of these things HD, apart from the risk of short circuit and an intense unstoppable fire, the risk of death from electrocution is quite high. Hence the safety precautions required when working on any electric vehicle.

Point of pedantry - the risk of death from electrocution, used in its original sense, is 100%. Electrocution is a portmanteau of ‘Electric/Electro’ and ‘Execution’

It really doesn't matter though, does it! The fire wiped out the field. That is the point.
