The air quality at QB is no worse then thousands of places through the Uk and millions of places around the world.

Get a grip

But that in itself doesn't mean that air quality at the QB is good, even if it was true.  And we don't really know it is true or not, because the Government did indeed stop monitoring the air quality in 2010.  To be fair the results up to that point don't seem to have been particularly high with levels only exceeded a few times a year, but that was a decade ago, it's not quite clear what the relevant levels were in comparison to other standards and things may have changed in the last decade in terms of pollution and acceptable levels.

But fear not because the DfE is now on the case and is claiming that air pollution is now being monitored by the 'Internet of Things'.  Though you'll notice that as ever the press release is long on bigging up the Department and not so good at giving out any actual results.  Still the main criteria for Manx Government spending have been fulfilled: buy more toys and employ someone with a grand title and high salary (yes they really do have an  "IoT Manager at Digital Isle of Man").

You sound like you know the truth about air quality at the QB junction.

It has been "withheld" for years due to how toxic it is.

I saw the figures from about 15 - 20 years ago and they were well over the EU  limits at that time and quickly hidden.

Now with a 2x increase in traffic, I hate to think how bad they are.

For the plebs, DO NOT GO INTO DOUGLAS ON A NON WINDY DAY IN THE MORNING OR EVENING RUSH HOURS.

The air quality is super toxic and will contribute to you getting cancers in a big way.

You need to remember that just because we are an island that does not make our air clean. If there is little or no wind the toxic fumes from cars/ vans and trucks spew out and hang around at busy junctions.

This is especially bad on the island now because we don't have MOT testing which will pick up worn out, badly adjusted engines that spew toxic black fumes.

I don’t, but all I do know is in that traffic jam down to the bottom during TT you can literally taste the benzene.

.............it's only for a short time each day and it's swiftly dispersed, not like on a motorway or in a city where the vehicles are non stop and surrounded by buildings.

The NPM and the new Marshalls body are bigging up, saying the numbers are looking good. Presumably there has been a stampede of new marshalls wanting to get involved? Not long ago, they were moaning about numbers, same with Homestay, now there are a plethora of householders all wanting in on the action.

Not sure what bigging up means but if you mean the fact is more marshals are coming forward then that’s correct !

You can't believe everything stirred up by social media, most of the time it's an echo chamber of the views of a minority with an axe to grind!

You may be right about social media .

That said one could argue that   "Jane Corlett " , an individual , according to the EGM ,"ratified by the DfE ", would say that she was pleased with the numbers of marshals signing up 😂 , perhaps  she could have provided numbers ?

Has she  (under the direction of the CoC /ACU/ Motorsports Team) , been instructed to 'grind an  axe' 😉 as a lack of sufficient  marshals could scupper the racing?

Just saying

According to 3fm the TTMA say they are on course to train a record number of marshals. There is quite a distinction between numbers looking good and record numbers. I would say that the Starship Enterprise bullshit scheme is in full mode.

It may be true that a"record number of marshals" are on course to train given that the IMC training is only valid for 3 years .

I would venture to suggest that the majority of those who  marshalled previously do/ did not  not have a valid IMC "badge".

Given the numbers of marshals required it would be interesting to know how many marshals are fully trained and will be trained in time for TT  and the total number of marshals required to cover all the marshalling points for every practice and race  ( many marshals can only volunteer to marshal a few sessions).

Just saying

I am glad other contributors saw through the biggest load of contradictory Bull shit that woman was spouting this morning on the Nations Station. Firstly she said numbers have trickled in for the past two years….really then she went on about training in the next breath she stated Marshalls could sign on to Marshall on the day to do a session…..what….  then she announced with pride they had received an enquiry from people in South America who would like to come to the TT and maybe marshall…if they haven’t got their booking on the S.P. already they are flogging a dead horse. If she thought she was giving confidence regarding the situation she was dead wrong she just insulted the listeners intelligence.    Between her and the Doctor and his cruise ship good news the news was totally unbelievable and crass.

Looking at the state of the course, the lack of hospital staff and dire situation in hospitality I am struggling to be optimistic about TT going ahead

having just driven down from the Start/Finish i would agree, some potholes their that could be classed as caves.
