Two dead at the Nurburgring over the weekend.

The Reno air races have seen numerous deaths including 11 in one incident in 2011.  People will still be going to compete and spectate again in September.

Danger brings its own unique buzz.  One which some people will understand and some won’t.

Sadly if the TT itself does not survive more than a couple of years or so then all these riders will be forgotten about in 20 or 30 years time, except by the grandparents and great-grandparents who are around at the time. The great car racing names live on because they are not associated with just a single race track.

That isn’t the case at all. It is for most normal deaths but there is a desire from supporters to remember all of those who died on the Mountain Course.

well couple of days to go and to be honest I am ready for it to finish and get back into a proper routine.

Roll on TT 2023 when the same arguments can be reignited

You have forgotten the new relaunched (umpteenth) Manx Grand Prix/Classic TT/ Festival of Motorcycling in August.

It is estimated that 10 people die every year training for the London marathon. One or two die during or immediately after the event. Sometimes they get a mention. No call to ban the marathon.

Come on, it is highly unlikely that it is the event that kills them, if c20,000+ people enter the London Marathon it is to be expected that some will die of various causes in the build up.  In 40 years there have been a dozen or so deaths during the event, or 1 every 3 or so years, almost all from heart disease related cardiac arrest.

That's the worst analogy I have ever seen. These people would have died anyway. You are being very silly. You do not die training or running unless you have a pre-existing condition.

I doubt if many of those racing now have great-grandparents alive now, let alone in 20-30 years time

Risk of death during a marathon, 1 in 150,000 participants.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6606059/

Risk of death during the TT races, unknown,  but 264 fatalities would require 39.6 million participants to be equal with marathons.

No call to ban the marathon.
