There are some tasty additions for TT fans in 2022 – not least the introduction of the TT Fan Park and Live TV coverage – but there will be some less noticeable changes too. Less noticeable they may be, but one in particular is absolutely vital. The TT’s new Safety Management System (SMS) is the culmination of many months work, taking advantage of the two-year hiatus that was afforded to the organisational team. Designed to drive safety performance, and thus safeguard the future sustainability of the iconic event, its introduction marks the beginning of a significant change in culture. A range of new initiatives resulting from the SMS will be rolled out in time for TT 2022, but don’t worry, you’re not going to hear about speed limiters or engine capacity limits; the spectacle is going nowhere. Rather the SMS is about proactively identifying hazards and removing the unnecessary risks. It also brings investment in people, training, infrastructure and equipment. wrighty
SMS to drive safety performance? I thought sending and receiving texts while riding a motorbike was considered dangerous if anything. 1

No. They are beinh indoctrinated. They are being taught. I can believe anyone would think that was wrong. Another ostrich on here.
Non-Believer
Does "proactively identifying the hazards and removing the un-necessary risks" refer to the dropping of the 5000-odd dieback-affected trees around the TT course....? 😂
Boris Johnson
Or increasing the engine size for sidecars to chase the 120mph lap? The sidecar class is expected to feature new machinery in 2022 as, for the first time, teams will be permitted to use 900cc parallel twin-cylinder engines. It means the biggest shakeup in the class for three decades with the newly eligible powerplants running alongside the 600cc four-cylinder and 675cc three-cylinder outfits that have long been the mainstay of sidecar racing at the TT. Might we therefore see the Birchall brothers powered around the TT Mountain Course by a new powerplant? Already edging closer to the magical 120mph lap for sidecars, Ben is likely to play a waiting game: WTAF is wrong with this island? How is making the TT even faster making it safer? Numbnuts
I think for anyone whos a regular in the racing over here , notice I didnt preclude any other racing , its all about the challenges that the courses offer. I respect that totally and for some the changes in regs offer another test to reach for. You cannot limit a persons aims and ambitions. I wouldnt get on a bike if you paid me , even lots , but I admire what these guys do who tbh have bikes in there blood. Totally respect for them and as long as we can offer them the oportunity to challenge themselves long may it continue. Yes its dangerous but so is any activity that pushes the boundarys. Crack on guys and my upmost respect to you all. 2
A fool and his money.....
3 minutes ago, Boris Johnson said: Oh FFS................... Well it does. You've also got to remember there's two people on a sidecar, the 600's would be screaming most of the way round, leading to very regular mechanical failure (which can be dangerous in itself ) and difficult overtaking. Both these will also be made safer with the larger motor.
Non-Believer
The new sidecar engine regulations are more to do with the hugely reduced availability of the engines that they've been using for the last thirty years (ie the manufacturers don't make them anymore) and the need to phase in replacement spec engines. They will be little or no slower and are already competitive with their predecessors. James Blonde
Is this what's been forced on them following the Mercer injury? While all very impressive it sounds very, very... expensive! Annoymouse
Interesting engine choice, can’t see a parallel twin being particularly reliable over that distance.
