No it wouldn't.

Go on then, what would the Islands USP be?

If you cut funding to the things you don't approve off then pressure would soon emerge to cut funding to the likes of Castle Rushen, The Grove Museum, The Laxey Wheel, Peel Castle, The Nautical Museum, and the House of Mannanan.  You are left with the countryside, the roadworks on Douglas Promenade and a load of Chinese granite.

Any tourists who might have visited will now think it not worth the expenses and visit the adjacent islands at a lower cost.

Sure, the zero corporation rates may still attract businesses but plenty of people here object to the online gaming industry and the dominance of the finance sector already.  Plus if the UK does decide to try and be the "Singapore of Europe" then bang goes that advantage as well.

There is nothing special about the things you have listed.

Old castles? All over the UK.

Victorian Houses ? All over the UK.

Wheels? Plenty of mining heritage all over the UK.

Steam trains? Wales and actually most of the UK.

Electric trams? Blackpool.

We should stop trying to be some kind of Victorian paradise and actually come into the modern world. Promote sustainable tourism, active tourism making the most of our geography (gravity sports centre on Snaefell). Actually make the Island a decent place to visit rather than just the run down has been that it has become through chasing the current agenda.

Gravity sports?!  What like ziplining? (can do that in Wales), Skiing? (plenty of places in the UK to do that both indoors and outdoors on real snow, fake snow and dry ski slopes).  Mountain biking? Take your pick from the Lake District, Pennines, Peak District, Wales, Scotland.

As for the coastline... You can go sea kayaking, surfing, windsurfing, sailing etc in plenty of more accessible places all around the UK.

Anything you can suggest can be found in the adjacent Island and for many it will be far more accessible and lower cost.

What you fail to understand is that it is the combination of everything in one small location that makes the Island different.

Where the Island looks run down is the roads and private residences that have been allowed to deteriorate into a terrible state.  The Island's roads and infrastructure was not designed for the size and volume of vehicles on them today and when they are repaired it is generally only a resurfacing and they soon start to fall apart again.

No chance of them limiting the number of cars on the road then

You are selling our island short if you think we need all of those tacky, gimmicky Victorian attractions to be somewhere special. There is far more to the island than a load of clapped out old relics.

Why do you hate the Isle of Man so much?

I love our Island but I am telling you that it is a combination of everything we have in terms of our social history and stunning environment which makes the Island so attractive.

I notice you seem to have dropped your claims about other activities making the Island attractive?  Perhaps because you realise that what I have said is correct?

As for the TT.  I fear that it will be cancelled this year as well or if not visitor numbers will be well down.  I do think roads away from the TT course need more attention but the roads that make up the TT course are main roads so should be some of the highest priorities for maintenance anyway.

you're not wrong, but there can't be too many places in the UK where all these things are almost spitting distance from each other.

And where has a motorcycle race anywhere near as good as the TT?

Sustainable tourism? You don't get more sustainable than 100 plus years.

Good luck with your gravity tourism though - nowhere will be able to copy that.

Hang on. TT is the 2 weeks where such normal tourists are excluded because

1. You can't get here and

2. There is no where to stay.

Its tricky to have a boot in both camps isn't it.
