There were only 35,763 private households in the 2016 Census so on the surface it might look like a good result. But as you say there are many more properties and without investigating each one, rather than just assuming that there's no one there, you can't really tell. John Wright
Interim results out today. Population 84,096. Average age up. I wish I understood how that 84,096 squares with the vaccination dashboard eligible population of ( 12+ ) 79,216. Clearly there aren’t fewer than 5,000 children below age 12. https://www.gov.im/media/1375604/2021-01-27-census-report-part-i-final-2.pdf?fbclid=IwAR2XuqObuC6k0hCite9ILQ-S86KPbpvS-lb5t6WcGSvqlFBnp0P7AZw_59Y 2

Another stated was empty but there has been at least 4 people in there consistantly and at one time over the last year at least 6 ( flats) Another property opposite me notes stated again 2 and there's at least 4 and has been for years( bedsit) . First property again in 3 flats has upwards of 7 including kids and again for years . They were supposed to come back and I'm always around but haven't seen them back again . This is one small cul de sac in Douglas in a prominent bed sit and flat area so I really have no confidence the figures are even close. One other property was down for 3 people but its been renovated over the last 3 years and still has no occupants or even finished Edited February 1, 2022 by Numbnuts
Non-Believer
It's because the Population figures need to tally with the Economic figures that continue to show unstinting, relentless growth for the 435th year in succession that outstrips that of all other global economies and is forecast to do so for the foreseeable future. Even though we can't heat a swimming pool.

A fool and his money.....
Interesting reading. A statistic I'd like to see is how much government have spent attempting to grow the economically active population in the last ten years, and how many of the 266 extra have been as a result of this and not natural causes? Or how many civil service jobs have gone off Island, how much has been granted in relocation costs and where they're being housed? Possibly the reason we now have a housing crisis pushing local kids off Island is a policy of immigration within government, because that's easier than encouraging business here.
A fool and his money.....
266 increase in economically active population since 2011. 770 new Civil Service appointments since 2020. I have no words.

I've thought this for some time...trying to maintain population "economic critical mass" by any means.
