There are a lot of empty & underused properties about. Let's see some incentives to get them put into use, & regeneration of brownfield sites for social housing and first time buyer homes

Not 5,000 though.

And the result of only building on brownfield sites is every one ends up living cramped up in tiny flats with no outdoor space. Whilst fields and countryside sit unused all in name of the sacred cow of "the greenbelt". Massive problem across, potentially becoming that here.

Perplexing that the Housing Tsar should ask questions about the MDC. Clearly things are not right.

Well the MDC was established at great cost before Chris Thomas was appointed, not sure what they’ve achieved yet but I think Chris has some good ideas but obviously need backing with funds & not competing with another Government body

I can't remember what the actual number of empty properties is - was it 2,000+ ?

No reason why flats/apartments in medium to low rise urban developments should be cramped - there must be building and planning regs to ensure they are not

It's up to urban councils to provide green spaces in towns. Developers can donate unused space on their sites & will nowadays probably wish to have green spots to make them attractive

The green biosphere does not sit there unused, there's billions of bugs and stuff out there doing their thing for the health of the planet

Of course they're cramped! Most Manx houses on estates are cramped. Look at the homes in suburban America or Sweden or Australia. But in the British Isles we live hunched together in tiny hutches whilst 90% of the land is wasted because we have this mystical attraction to the countryside.

There are space standards in the UK

Architects complain that they're 'optional'

Now is the time to lobby Tynwald to make sure new sustainable housing standards & building regs coming soon make size standards obligatory

But they have more countryside in the places you mention, the IoM has a far greater population density than any of them. I think the cost of land and the greed of developers has more to do with it than an attraction to the countryside which far from being mystical is a global human condition.
