Dirty Buggane
Here's a good one, charge there sewage rates by miles. They are charged say at £1.23 per turd per mile and if having to stay in holding tanks that is counted as waiting time 0.009 pence per hour or part hour. No surcharge for bank holidays or after midnight. Sorted 2

Can't blame them for trying I guess You do realise that every island resident south of and including Onchan sends their sewage elsewhere at, someone else's cost, don't you?

They could then be recovered, washed and redistributed! 1

Pumping sewage uphill was affordable in the eyes of the Government in the late 90's, they were still swimming in money (and untreated sewage) If they're so set on keeping the MER then maybe they should get some little tanker wagons and tow the sewage to Summerland and empty it into IRIS there? The pipe is right under King Edward Road / Queens Prom. Edited June 8, 2022 by 0bserver

I'm all for the new plan so long as it involves treatment works and not just holding tanks to be transported off somewhere else to be dealt with. Laxey beach (thanks mainly to The Shed) is now more popular than ever. It was rammed today with lots of swimmers - lots of them swimming in raw sewage. It needs to be sorted. it's 2022 FFS. Thank you. You saved me replying. You are right. The regional scheme is, and maybe always the best solution. We can't undo what's been done. @Johnny F is right. We all pay for past mistakes. Let's not do it again. Running a pipe and pumps all the way from Laxey to marry veg would be sheer madness

Even still it's a hell of a cost to pipe through to onchan compared to just using gravity and a small sewage works.

I distinctly remember him saying that pumping it up hill and ALL to a central point would never work. They didn't listen to the experts 30 years ago, so at least they've got form.
Omobono
in this day and age it should be possible to collect and treat to a high standard all the sewage in the Laxey area ,there are hundreds of these plants all over Europe , that operate without smells odours ,and most of the time you don't even know they are there . when will someone realise the money is not there anymore for Rolls Royce solutions , its all been wasted on non essentials and nice to haves !
Johnny F
They have proved that you can pump shit uphill though haven't they ? The original plan was that all the islands sewage would go to Meary Veg, however as soon as Douglas and the rest of the south was connected up it became obvious that the amount of dung they would be dealing with was far greater than anticipated and parts of the treatment process were instantly working at more than full capacity.

I think the costs of connecting up the rest of the Island became starkly apparent too after the bills started coming in for what they'd actually managed to do (£173M rings a bell?). After that they started putting in local treatment in piecemeal fashion which is why Laxey and Peel are still ongoing. I think Chris Robertshaw did a report on this which exposed rather a lot of things that some people didn't want exposed and it was quickly shelved?
