the delayed overnight easyjet gatwick service circled overhead for an hour due to low visibility and eventually landed

Not sure why we need these continual updates. All such info is available on several websites eg Flightradar etc etc etc

Thread drifted from Airport to airlines a while ago in the absence of any information about the terminal redevelopment or improvements to the airfield.

Detailing delays also records whether the problem is low visibility and could have been avoided by improving the infrastructure

So.....

1. have EZY got their act together now?

2. is ATC still on reduced hours?

3. what news from DoI/airport about their non-compliance with the CAA?

1. No. But they’ve had a run of good luck.

2. Yes.

3. What do you think, especially given 2?

3. I thought there was other stuff that they weren't in compliance with apart from 2??

My answer still stands, however.

But never mind, we’ve got RinGo and increased parking prices, but reduced car parking, new trolleys that don’t fit the trolley parks - so they’ve had to cut one side off all of them, a security area that is so badly designed it has such a narrow space between the search desk and departure lounge wall that if someone is standing there whilst their luggage is searched no one else, and certainly no one in a wheelchair, can get past, and they’re going to reconfigure and repaint the departure lounge and replace the seating.

What more could the CAA want?

1. Most problems here were on the evening Gatwick. The first wave of EZY Gatwick departures was almost 80 flights in mid-summer. Any issues then, rippled through the whole day. That figures is now 55-60, so they have a lot more slack in the system.

A whole two weeks without one of my tables, you must all be feeling bereft.  Anyway the CAA August figures are now available.  As a starter here's the Airport cancellation table, and the Isle of Man has actually dropped down to not much worse than average.  Partly this is because the overall average is worse - 2.51% as opposed to  1.59% in July.  Peak holiday season problems mean that both Gatwick and Heathrow had worse cancellation rates for instance that IOM's 2.61%, and Liverpool and Manchester also returned far worse than normal.  London City also remains poor at over 5%, perhaps flight consolidation.

But the IOM's drop from 4.89% in July must also be due to managing to expand the ATC hours, though that does give rise to questions about why this happen earlier.

I should know not to bring good news - news of the Airport's resurrection has proved to be premature.

I thought I'd do my usual report of the cancellation information from the CAA punctuality data.  So I went to the Isle of Man page there  and copied over the numbers.  But it was clear that these were again incorrect, with the easyJet Manchester disappearing again and other things implausible, such as no Gatwick cancellations.  So I checked what the numbers reported for other Airports were for their IOM routes and the figures are very different:

Airport Carrier August re IOM August re Others
Mvmts Canx % Canx Mvmts Canx % Canx
BFS easyJet 16 0 0.00% 16 0 0.00%
BRS easyJet 72 2 2.78% 16 2 12.50%
LGW easyJet 81 0 0.00% 90 8 8.89%
LPL easyJet 93 0 0.00% 96 4 4.17%
MAN easyJet 0 0 0.00% 62 6 9.68%
DUB Emerald 82 0 0.00% 82 0 0.00%
BHD Emerald 50 0 0.00% 50 2 4.00%
BHX Loganair 49 0 0.00% 50 1 2.00%
EDI Loganair 28 0 0.00% 30 2 6.67%
LHR Loganair 61 1 1.64% 62 2 3.23%
LPL Loganair 108 1 0.93% 108 0 0.00%
LCY Loganair 68 0 0.00% 70 2 2.86%
MAN Loganair 110 16 14.55% 98 4 4.08%
    818 20 2.44% 830 33 3.98%

  easyJet 262 2 0.76% 280 20 7.14%
  Emerald 132 0 0.00% 132 2 1.52%
  Loganair 424 18 4.25% 418 11 2.63%
    818 20 2.44% 830 33 3.98%
  Charter 12 0 0.00% 12 0 0.00%
  Other 50 3 6.00% 50 3 6.00%
    880 23 2.61% 892 36 4.04%

As you can see the overall cancellation rate is no longer 2.61%, but now 4.04%.  It's worth saying even this revised figure is an underestimate.  I have to take certain IOM-derived figures on trust, including those for Dublin, which show no cancellations, and yet there was at least one cancelled return flight in August, and given there have been problems all Summer on the route, it wouldn't surprise me if there were more.

Todays Loganair to Lcity cancelled earlier and tonight’s Gatwick just cancelled , for a change! . Apparently ATC  restrictions here.

Cobb is on the Mannin Line on Tuesday. It'll be interesting to see of anyone is able to put him under a bit of pressure on these issues.
