BBC News - Scottish airline Loganair no longer up for sale

Well at least the island chose an airline as its partner that appears to be profitable and sustainable . Don’t get me wrong Loganair are not perfect by any stretch but it was a better choice than Flybe Mark 1 or Mark 2 !

Transun doing a package to Lapland Saturday 3 Feb 2024 for 4 nights. Between £1389 - £2249 per person depending on accomodation chosen. Children and adults are the same price per person.

£5k - £8k for a family of four. Clearly a market for it here so good luck to the organisers. Gotta spend those dividends on something.

Loganair on Thursday Birmingham was cancelled.

Today, Loganair Birmingham delayed almost 3 hours

It seems they have taken the second IOM based aircraft to position to Edinburgh, do a return trip to Sumburgh and then come back here, although this plan is currently hours behind schedule.

https://www.flightradar24.com/data/aircraft/g-lmtd

So they try to run the IOM flights with one plane. Make of that what you will in terms of where we sit in their priorities.

Dublin (Aer Lingus) this morning was cancelled

Manchester - IOM easyJet diverted back to Manchester due to fog.

London City arrival has been holding overhead. It was in the air for over 2 hours. On its approach at 2130 it descended to 100ft and aborted landing. I don't know what the company policy is for the amount of missed approaches but they then decided to divert away from IOM to LPL. So there will be a consequential impact on tomorrow's services.

Gatwick easyJet diverted to LGW due to fog in IOM.

Edit to add- Gatwick is delayed overnight

Not sure of easyjet but with loganair they always try to do the LHR rotation as a load of passengers on it are from codeshare partners.   I've noticed that they even poach aircraft meant to operate other sectors ( MAN for example ) if there are issues with the aircraft due to operate to LHR

LHR departed almost 3 hours late on Saturday.

Loganair London City this morning is cancelled.

Gatwick service from last night is rescheduled to later to today

Loganair from Liverpool landed, and was in position to go back there this morning.

Loganair from London City made two approaches and eventually diverted to Liverpool. This morning's London City cancelled as a consequence. Presumably will position back here once the crew are back in hours.

easyJet from Manchester turned back without descending below 10000 feet. Returned to Manchester. Not rescheduled.

easyJet from Gatwick circled over the Irish Sea for around 20-30 minutes. He gave up and went back to Gatwick after London City couldn't land at his second attempt. Rescheduled for early PM today.

I wasn’t going to say anything as it’s been said umpteen times before, but whilst IOM Airport say that they can’t do anything about the weather, it is an absolute fact that they can do more to deal with it. If a FULL approach lighting system was in place, last night’s and this morning’s knock on disruption would not have occurred. In the prevailing conditions last night with the officially BASIC approach lighting we have, at the point you arrive at decision altitude, the lights are still so far ahead of you that you can’t see them through the low cloud so a missed approach is mandatory.

This weather would not cause a problem for a properly equipped airport with a FULL approach lighting system.

We really shouldn’t have to putting up with this totally avoidable situation.
