They don’t like the boss is my guess so just doing there required shift without helping him in any way. Just a hunch ….

I’m going with “unpleasant boss, emboldened after seeing off Spake and Reynolds, has become more unpleasant”.

Just a theory though. I don’t know people at the airport. But I’m aware of at least one ATC who went through their training but then left for a lower-paid job not in ATC.

Indeed. He was appointed by Ann Reynolds after the job description was changed by her to fit the person. His job was to 'sort the tower out'. However, the love in with her and Spake was short lived because he soon realised the problem didn't lie in the tower, but with them. He got that bit right.

His military MO and abrasive style has proven to be a poor fit in the civil environment. It is a cause of much discontent and has made staff retention difficult. I have worked with many who have transitioned from military roles into equivalent civilian positions. The ones who do well are the ones who realise there are differences in the way things are done and change. You need to do a lot more than just take the uniform off.

You'd hope that would go without saying.  But looking at Pugh's Linkedin, what is striking is the lack of even military managerial experience:

The only position where he was any sort of supervisory role was a Deputy one held for only 20 months after which he left (and this is all without allowing for the usual Linkedin role-inflation).  It's not exactly what you would expect in someone appointed to such a senior position.  Though I suppose it's still a better cv than Spake.

I’m not so sure it is to be honest.

The reason why he got his TV career is because he was doing the do at Aeroflot in the first place. I can’t imagine working for a Russian airline in mid 90s was exactly easy.

I was working in Russia at that time and when one of the news outlets showed a clip of one episode the Russians that I was sharing a house howled with laughter at his pathetic attempts at speaking Russian.

Any reason why?

I would imagine gusting winds putting it out of crosswind limits here and Manchester. The narrow track undercarriage means it's a handful on the ground ! It does seem forecast to ease later.
