Storm in a tea cup issue by Heathrow on Sea. Got the rude security treatment today, which always adds that special touch to the IOM airport experience. You can see this leading up to a world where they charge a few quid to use the immediate drop off/pick up area like at Liverpool Airport.
Roger Mexico
1 hour ago, Amadeus said: Why can they still not tidy the place up a bit and do basic maintenance? It continues to look shabby. Faded signs, weeds, paint peeling off etc. Surely it can’t be so hard to have someone do basic tasks to rectify this? And what’s speedy parking? From times gone by? I don’t remember that. Maintenance? MAINTENANCE??? Go and wash your mouth out with soap and water, we'll have none of that filthy talk here. The Manx Way is to have Projects to make those in charge feel important, you can't possibly expect these grand gentlemen to dirty their hands with the menial task of keeping things going. Maintenance is what you cut back when your project overruns. Speedy parking were there till the end of March: In terms of legacy direction signs this very up-to-date in Manx terms. There's probably still one around that says "Vikings: Rape and Pillage This Way". 1

Roger Mexico
Meanwhile Oor Jason has been getting inquisitive again: It was confirmed at this week's sitting of the House of Keys that customers paid £599,430.40 to use the car parks at the Isle of Man Airport during the 2023-24 financial year. However, Infrastructure Minister Tim Crookall said he couldn't reveal how much of that went to RingGo, which processes the payments, due to commercial confidentiality. (I can't find the full question on Listen Again which is becoming more and more random with a load of items not appearing and those that do in confusing order and sometimes mislabelled) It's worth putting that £600 K take in parking in context. In the calendar year 2019, before Covid, the stopping of charging for parking and then the introduction of RingGo, we know from FoIs that the amount taking with the old barrier system was £678,843.72. So even the headline figure is now less than before. Some of this will be because of the drop in passenger numbers. In 2019 this was 865,617, while the figure for April 23- March 24 was only 642,789. But despite the increase in charges, the total is still less. Meanwhile the secrecy over RingGo's charges to the owners of car parks is so great that the only way you can find out about them is by reading a public document supplied by RingGo itself: Note that because the client pays the banking charges, there's no savings involved from the previous situation in the processing of payments etc. It's also possible that the charge for SMS messages[1] to a different telecoms jurisdiction may be higher. So now you're better informed than Tynwald. Not difficult I know. [1] I'm not sure how many there will for each transaction, but those who have used to app will know. 1

Maybe an external screen (like the Sea Terminal has at the front) with arrivals info would reduce the need (or the excuse) for people having to leave their cars to find out if a flight has arrived yet. 1

The app can’t be downloaded if you don’t have a UK Apple ID, and you can’t register on their website with non UK/Manx mobile for to 2FA. Had correspondence with them confirming. It really is a piece of sh*t - and so tourist friendly (not)

Suspect RingGo net 20-30% - that’s pretty standard for third party booking apps

The place can’t even replace faded street signs or find a brush and shovel.

If only there was a firm who could simply replace or repair the pay to exit parking barriers 🙄. I'm trying to think of any other form of taxation or revenue where Govt is happy to lose 20% - 30%.... 2
