We could always get a management consultancy firm into sort things out.

Who ya gonna call?, airport busters , AKA Team Annie and Jez.

The business: https://transformmoc.com/?fbclid=IwAR1z4_7iAIW0sFDZnPyiP5MiWEkEtutF-9tAjJK-uq7UCOduZd06RV4DGyY

The company info: (see people) https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/14018199/officers?fbclid=IwAR2_l0cu0Ql4aT7dF3IuJ3Ip6Cx0uI6pogd-TU9Ljgk8xiIQLqcqAaU_LfI

The company was formed on 1 April with Jezzer as sole director and sole shareholder of 1 share. Annie joined on 8 April.  The website says it is a relative young company (positively pre-pubescent) and has no contracts but is speaking to a number of potentials to refine their requirements.

Make of all that what you will; I have drawn my own conclusions.

Where did Jezzer come from when he took the Ronaldsway position?

Don’t worry with Liverpool Sea Terminal costing in excess of £70m you would think this would have all the latest in passenger comforts, and facilities needed. Sadly the right facilities weren’t spent at the airport, at the detriment of the islands reputation. As the person being interviewed for IOMTV commented, even Airports in Bulgaria have better facilities than IOM Airport. We like to think we are first world with a fantastic reputation but in realty we are third world, with crap facilities, crap management and crap politicos in charge, but we won’t admit it. Even if IOMG invest in a new weatherproofing system to allow landing, you can be guaranteed that the civil servants will screw it up - order the wrong system, pay over the odds for it or make a foreign currency purchase error.

Gatwick have been trialling a new scanner where all goes through in the bag without separation. It was much better than the normal lines.

We can all moan on here when the gov spank millions on them.

It’s being used in the USA in airports, and is said to work and cut out a lot of time. I have no objection to the purchase of new technologies etc. if money is spent wisely. Unfortunately money isn’t spent wisely or in the taxpayers best interest.

Radar does not do anything for approach and landing in low or zero visibility. It requires a completely separate system, at the airport. The aircraft, the operator and the Flight crew need to be approved. The flight crew also need to be current. The system being CATT III, CAT IIIA. I am sure. Our flight crew members can expand further if this is economically viable for IOM.

Unfortunately, we can’t manage the weather in the Irish Sea but we could have made things better for poor visibility operations.  Retention of some Approach Lighting allied to Runway Visual Range (RVR) equipment would almost certainly improve landing success rates. Indeed, had we gone with an Arrestor Bed solution for the RESA at 26 end back in circa 2000 we could have retained the lighting gantry. It’s all history now and urgently needs an operationally and commercially astute new Director to get the airport back to operating more effectively for the Island.

We returned to the island from Gatwick yesterday on the earlier flight, fortunately no problems.  Gatwick is a horrible airport with hardly any seating as it is designed for queuing, queue to check in and queue for security.  Security is quite painless now, and once you are in departures it is better provided for seating.

On Ronaldsway, no issue with security on the way out and no delays on baggage collection on the return.

Clearly, the system needs upgrading to allow flights in poor visibility as that is a frequent occurrence.  Perhaps Jezza's new consultancy can assist?

Perhaps we're getting a mashup of DFE Digital e-gaming branch? Someone who has a reasonable track record on Flight Simulator and who rides a bike like Tom Cruise.

And mates with the boss.

No news on who the new airport director is yet. I know two qualified local applicants who were unsuccessful.

we will never go for qualified locals when we can have unqualified foreigners .

Here are the rules and the limits.

ICAO and FAA CAT III definitions

A CAT III operation is a precision approach at lower than CAT II minima. Sub-categories are listed below.

  • A category III A approach is a precision instrument approach and landing with no decision height or a decision height lower than 100ft (30m) and a runway visual range not less than 700ft (200m).

  • A category III B approach is a precision approach and landing with no decision height or a decision height lower than 50ft (15m) and a runway visual range less than 700ft (200m), but not less than 150ft (50m).

  • A category III C approach is a precision approach and landing with no decision height and no runway visual range limitation.
