The idea was that the Manx would be so impressed that they would stop getting friends and relatives to drop them off for their flights and instead be happy to pay long term parking charges when they went on holiday. Because that's how it works in the UK so it must be the same here. Didn't work. Funny that. Does she even still exist?

Maybe it is going to happen? Would be handy to pick up food when you get home. They will need something when the new Dandara estate is up and running. Hope is's an Aldi. Derek Flint
I think the airport car parks are a 'key economic indicator'. We used to travel a lot - police stuff, leisure, visiting and the whole Beckii thing. The car parks were always busy. Even before Covid there was a marked decline in use, and then folk were further disenfranchised by the stasi like enforcement of the drop off lane after people refused to pay the pound for picking up visitors. The swathes of.empty land there isn't a good look. I hope things pick up but can't see it any time soon. Any views?

Going end of October - http://www.iomtoday.co.im/article.cfm?id=62086&headline=I'm leaving my job as airport director&searchyear=2021 I haven’t seen any advert for her replacement yet, surprisingly as senior officials are usually replaced like for like. Perhaps the DOI have decided to save the £ on paying a Director as well as a Deputy.
Apple
It looks like an empty council housing estate from the 70's. Bereft nowadays of any sign of significant life, looks vastly underused and just seems to portray a dull, basic, unexciting entrance to the island that for travellers must give the worst first impression they can get. Looks grotty.

But that's the DOI way.... design & build something grandiose (car park-wise) and then let someone else worry about the maintenance and upkeep/cleaning etc. Weeds growing in the kerbsides, out of the bushes etc. It looks abandoned because it's been abandoned.

The whole island is overgrown with weeds you'd think there was a global shortage of Roundup! 1
AlanShimmin
All part of the great DOI plan. Build on the current car park, then if/when things recover there will be a shortage of car parking so the only answer will be to build a super duper 6 storey car park to replace the ones lost. Then we can have a skyway into the upper floor of the terminal. Should all be possible for about £48m
CallMeCurious
Don't forget how much security has changed since that was built. CAA and others dictate those rules. No compliance = no flights. Classic Red Queen situation ~ you have to run just to stay where you are. Stop and you die. Or in this case slowly wither away.

It would have to be a least £100m to meet our standards of spending. Edited July 30, 2021 by Beelzebub3
