emesde
I guess the app system is being pushed as they can then get an advertising revenue from all the companies that they will encourage to advertise on the app. I It's nothing to do with what will be best for the customers it's all about what extra income they can squeeze out of anybody they can squeeze.

Becoz it's sexy and cool... and all the other words that desk jockeys use for this new internet age. Failing that, someone in DOI has a mate, who knows a mate's next door neighbour far enough removed that no one, absolutely no one will get the whiff of the glue on the brown envelope after the contract has been signed. 4

I think you're confused. Sexy and cool were words used by disk jockeys in the old pre-internet age.

I can't afford the £60 to certify the capabilities of the unit but I'm sure treasury could spare it. The details of the company are included... doc.fixit
Well, well. You did a good job there Quilp. Wonder what the,'minister's', reply would be to that statement? A real bombshell there.
quilp
We're constantly being taken for fools, Doc. And it's our money, we should be able to expect transparency and diligence but get neither. 2

To be zero cost for as long as you want, which is the current situation, will be pretty difficult to beat. 1 hour ago, emesde said: I guess the app system is being pushed as they can then get an advertising revenue from all the companies that they will encourage to advertise on the app. I It's nothing to do with what will be best for the customers it's all about what extra income they can squeeze out of anybody they can squeeze. Well with so many lining up to advertise on their website you must admit there's an unmet demand: And they're always so up to date - the latest social media shown are as recent as 2021. And they've tweeted twice this year! 1
Itsmeee
From IOM news website, article talking about the parking app, they quote the Minister saying ‘He also confirmed at least one cash machine option would be available, as ‘not everybody uses mobile apps, so we’ll have to cater for that as well’. The aim is for the machines to be installed in the next four to five weeks.’ so, can they get machines that take Manx coins or can’t they? If they can install one machine for the non app users, then they must be able to take Manx coinage. https://www.iomtoday.co.im/news/impossible-to-get-manx-coin-ticket-machine-546376
quilp
Yes they can. Machines are available which will recognise cards and cash in the same unit.

Just look at the payment machines in M&S. The can take all credit / debit cards. Vouchers, English notes and manx notes. Manx coins and English coins. These multi machines have been available for years and are generally very reliable. I would imagine that most people would want to pay with cards, but with the facility to use coins for small occaisional payments. I cannot understand how car park payments have been ignored for over a year (in excess of half a million pounds) and then say its because the manx coins are different. I bet if I claimed that sort of money fraudulently from the govermnent they would have reacted with a bit more haste. The whole affair has been a total disgrace. 5
quilp
So is it a case of wilful dishonesty or just lazily thick? Either way, as you say it's a total disgrace. These people supposedly work for us, it is therefore in their remit to obtain the best deal available. 4
