It looks like an app that a small company in an industrial estate might use to get a bit of income from some waste ground they did not need for a few months. Not for a "Gateway" to the 8th richest country in the world. FFS You could not make this shit up.

The app is free, but they charge a payment processing fee. Think it varies from £1.50 to £3.50. But they might soon realise down the line that the IOM is outside the capacity of their payment processor and it all gets forced to shut without notice.

If anyone thinks that solution A is best, no doubt they also believe that coin machines cannot be made to operate with Manx coins - so that will be all gov. managers and MHKs.
Amadeus
Will the old induction loop manhole cover trick still work?
Whiskey
The Glide app in town is linked to your reg plate and you register a card with it. It charges your bank as you leave. You don’t have to do anything more. You don’t get charged processing fees on top. It’s such an easy system. And quite a few of us Manxies already have it on our phones. So of course it’s something too easy for the airport to consider. FFS Edited May 9, 2022 by Whiskey
Nellie
Don't forget, we still have Athol Garage, and others, providing off site parking services, usually with a wash and hoover, and often cheaper, if you stay for more than 3 or 4 days. I'd very much doubt that the two Dim Tims, and their CS minders, will have given moments thought to the fact that this is a competitive environment, and if people don't like, or trust, the DoI solution, they have options.

Either that or does anyone think this whole idiotic situation might be driven by Home Affairs so if they don’t get their own way on border restrictions they can at least track everyone’s trips away via the apps. At least the taxi drivers might now get a bit more business out of drug dealers going to Liverpool so their or their mates parking usage doesn’t register. I'm not sure they have access to that much data as the car park provider? I mean, they can already see cars and their registration plates parked at the airport, not sure this gives then anything they don't already know. It potentially makes it a lot easier to track everyone’s movements.

This is the IOM CS we are talking about, not MI6. Take the tin foil hat off and stay off the internet for a few days.

I had heard - not sure if anyone can confirm or otherwise - that the airport effectively forced out on-site operators such as Speedy Park by back-invoicing them for space rents and office rents during the entire COVID period recently? Despite their businesses being impacted by no flights and then free parking.
