Changing subject a bit, is the airport back to normal ie paid parking, pick up outside etc?

From their press release yesterday

Good afternoon, as we progress towards normality here at the airport the car park barriers are being prepared for normal service.
For the next few days the main car park barrier will issue tickets on entry but will remain open at the exit and therefore will continue to be free of charge for the immediate period.

There are two.

One looks like a USMC V-22 Osprey and one looks like a Beechcraft Texan Trainer.

Both were practicing landing-runs, the Osprey also hovered over the runway.

I think they were from RAF Valley but only because its close and they usually are.

Was also here a few weeks ago

The Osprey was a first for Ronaldsway? Up from Mildenhall, belongs to the 7th Special Operations Squadron, 352 Special Operations Wing.

ETA: Also here for today

Well, there we go. RIP Heathrow, again. Last service last night and the Jet they were using scarpered. And then today the only local based aircraft died leaving the "patient transfer flight" as the Manx radio wallies refer to it grounded for 2 hours.

Normal service ? You decide....

London connectivity looks poor just now as we emerge from just under 16 months of restrictions. Looking ahead to the autumn, it looks like we get a couple of days each week with 2 LGW rotations, a couple of days with none and the rest with just 1 rotation. A London City or Heathrow route would need to be premium priced on smallish aircraft if it is to work. And it has not worked for long with any one airline in the past since the demise of Manx Airlines (who charged me £311 for day trip in the 1990s!).

The added challenge now is that the most respected analysts foresee a permanent reduction of 40% to 50% in business travel. I suspect that it will be less than that but even at 25% that would mean any profit and much more just disappears.

The London Gatwick route may be the only London one for a long time ahead although I also expect that easyJet will most likely consider trying to revive their previous Luton route at some point. Those who dislike easyJet should ask themselves what routes would even exist now without them let alone with their capacity, days of operation, frequencies and affordable prices on the IOM to Liverpool, Bristol, Belfast and Manchester routes.

It is not as if Loganair have covered themselves in glory during the past 16 months of taking multi millions of the taxpayers' money here. And their handling of refunds was, and to an extent still remains, appalling. And let us not forget either that if Loganair could make LHR or LCY work financially (both worked fine operationally) then they would be doing so - and they or someone else will do so when and if sufficient demand exits for a profit to be made.

And then there are the increasing major financial challenges for the IOM Government. They cannot simply keep chucking huge sums at an airline to keep a route alive. That much is obvious - they just stopped the vast amounts which were being paid to Loganair for the LCY and then the LHR services.

I should also mention the further obstacles of the ever more aggressive 'Green Agendas' on which many prospective MHKs are already doing a lot of salivating................................

Seems this job ad was posted on Red Sky Personnel on August 16 and has since been removed. Nobody locally who can do it?

edit: seems the job closed on august 18 according to this. Still strange to fly over relatively low level positions no? https://independentjobs.independent.co.uk/job/27296634/ground-security-supervisor/

The original design probably had full width, and the foundations and below ground services put in at the start of the extension project. Then when time and money over ran , they cut out 250m of finsihed surfacing as a 'nice to have' but not essential. Laughingly called value engineering.

Now they are finishing the job. And thereby the additonal costs and overrun are seperated out from the original job.

Can guarentee the same is happening with the prom project. Tram tracks spring to mind.

The problem is future project budgets are then based on this historical data and so the cycle continues.

Probably not.  Unemployment is down to 1% - 445 in July - with 663 vacancies on the books.  A lot of the unemployed won't be suitable for security jobs or unable to work those shifts (and it's the sort of job you need your own transport for).  And there's no job security in these sort of outsourced jobs.

What would be interesting to find out is who is paying for the extra spending  they need to attract people from across- free accom plus £100 a week sustenance.

This was Jersey Airport yesterday.

Meanwhile we are still praying Loganair stay here with their 25 year old 40 seat prop plane.

Who’s praying for that?

I think people don’t really care about the age or seat capacity of their plane as they are all regulated.

Just a good service at a reasonable price. Gets you from A to B. On a short hop you don’t need the fripperies

DOI are praying for it.

The point is: those planes are mostly carrying tourism. Jet2 also carrying many travellers on package trips to Jersey.

We don't get a reasonable price. We need competitive marketplace for that to happen. Problem is that our beloved Annie and the Russian mobster believe in a '1 route, 1 carrier' mentality.

They do and have been known to do all they can to deter competition. Openskies is but a myth.

After manx2 I would suggest that people should care and be more aware
