i guess the harder it is to get residency here the better it could be for those daft enough to want to

You’re still missing the point. Mrs Amadeus has Manx Residency, ie Amadeus has got the right to remain post Brexit certificate. She has right to remain. She doesn’t even need a Manx work permit, because Am is a Manx worker.

Its that the documentation to prove this isn’t a nice little photocard with QR or barcode, you have to cart around a file of papers which no check in staff will have seen or understand. It must be frustrating, and it will seem discriminatory, each time it happens.

Try using a Manx driving licence as ID in Vegas. Their automated computer systems AND their printed manuals in every casino have our old style passports still. Was there earlier this year and accused of forging the damn thing, whilst the security guy was busy telling me about his mate who has a few businesses in the Isle of Man for efficiency reasons.

The truth is we do fuck all to promote ourselves well on a wider global scale apart from in South Africa.

Lots of places issue a residency ID card that's linked to your passport and contains a photo and biometric info that solves the problem. It's not the having to prove entitlement, it's the stuff you have to carry.

I see the government are having trouble finding out how many people are living here ,  perhaps we could kill several birds with one stone and have government issue  a residency ID card , no point in having a Census every 10 years  and incidentally , we are still waiting for some of the results from the last one ! the driving licences are a joke because they no longer   have an an address  printed on them and therefore not proof of identity  or residency in the isle of Man

if everyone entitled to live here had a card similar to  that issued  by several  other countries  it could  solve many problems and the data  could be updated on a regular basis , and accessed by  agreement from various other countries ,police immigration customs etc , we are so far behind in areas like this ,

Precisely this. And it’s a flaw in the plan to attract loads of people here. What shocked me most this time around was that even UK border force didn’t seem to know, or at least the guy on the desk didn’t. His supervisor knew. Not how you want people living here treated when they travel.

That sounds like a wet dream for those who want a 'show your papers' type society.

Imagine the CS jobs they would create from it...
