4 per shift is going to require an establishment of at least 20

The main problem UK-wide post-COVID has been currency and training. You don't just 'become a controller'. You are certified to handle a certain number of aircraft movements per hour and this certification is kept valid by simulated exercises or doing the job in real life.

If a controller is certified to handle say 50 movements per hour but spends a prolonged period working at IOM airport for example, they can't just go back to somewhere at 50 movements per hour again. They need to do recertification. Just like pilots having to get in the sim to get their currency back up to scratch before taking to the stick again.

Given it’s a 7 day a week, 6am to 10pm, stint, 364 days a year, and there are maximum daily hours, and you’ve got to have cover for comfort and lunch etc. breaks, holidays, sickness, etc. 10 must be pushing the limits of double staffing.

You need out of hours cover for the air ambulance.

Plenty of information about the HIAL's squandering of £9 million on the remote ATC ill-conceived vanity project. It resulted in industrial action and its subsequent cancellation on Gary Cobb's watch.

We need to spend millions on this now !  FFS.

Outsourcing of ATC will have to happen at some point, the issue is whether we become an early adopter but pay handsomely for that privilege.

I'm in favour of outsourcing the government. Get someone competent in - maybe a few Germans or Swiss. After all, like Manx Care they do not need to be here to run the Island - that would just be micromanaging.

Not sure you can lay the blame of that on Gary Cobb, he was an airport operations manager not a director.

More likely that the Ministers and Directors hadn't the gonads to stand up to the union.

If you listen to his interview published yesterday with Moulton, Cobb was very blunt 'We only have 10 ATC staff and unfortunately they're heavily unionised.'

He didn't bother to praise and be blunt on working conditions, just a bit of a jab at them being unionised.

That speaks volumes.  Not good in my estimation.

Only when their range is significantly improved.

Wonder how long they take to charge between flights?

Imagine setting off from Liverpool, stormy night, three approaches to IoM, can’t land, not enough juice to return or go on to Belfast or Dublin. Splash!
