The freeze on ATC recruitment goes back to the Gawnio era. You won't hear him mentioning that on Manx Radio

I think in one of the interviews Chris Thomas (or maybe Cobb) said they were now up to strength in numbers, but a lot of the ATC staff hadn't finalised training and so the capacity was limited.

It's actually good that they have managed to reinstate ATC for early tomorrow - at least the Loganair flights will operate, though easyJet may have rescheduled.  And that they managed to announce it as speedily as possible on Facebook.  But nothing on their overly-busy website, which picks up Twitter postings instead, sometimes from months previously  As with so much IOMG social media there's a priority of promotion over information.

My question to DOI is: what changed?

Surely all options were explored before telling airlines of the ATC opening delay. How can a cat miraculously be pulled out of the bag that couldn't a few hours ago?

Bad processes put in place by bad management.

Logan Air didn't get out of City tonight. There was a text announcement for a delay but nothing for the cancellation. Everybody put up in a hotel due to fly back tomorrow morning. Not so good if,you know, you have work or something

Are the costs of these airport fails eventually ending up with the taxpayers?

It's before coffee time so here's a few home truths for the airport watchers !

We have had piss poor ministers, led by piss poor airport management , who have had no idea (and little interest) in how to run a small island airport with finite resources.

We have had ego driven Chief Ministers, whose sole aim in life was to attract Easyjet irrespective of the cost. As a result we extended the runway to fit with their SOP's ( not the resa bollocks that was sold to the public), the knock on effect of which was Flybe's demise in the island was hastened. This in turn cost the treasury millions as aircrew, maintenance personnel and others left the island to keep a job. Our variety of destinations which used to exist now don't, again which Government were told at the time (2006). We employed a failed airport director who in turn employed another joke of a director, neither of who had the first clue how to turn things around. Cost savings were made in the wrong places, whilst money was thrown at ego driven projects, which added no value to the travelling public.

We have a runway closed now due to mismanagement and neglect and the taxpayers continue to support this failed edifice to the tune of long millions. Over 20 years of poor decision making and incompetence is responsible for where we are now, not Covid, not Brexit nor any other easily trotted out excuse.

.... and lastly we have always for some reason had to look off island for someone to run the place, there are, or were suitable candidates with aviation experience who didn't get a look in, perhaps they weren't as versed in bullshit as senior appointments need to be.

Good luck Mr Cobb, you are going to need it !!!!!!!!!!

But, but, 6 Chinese banks!!

The whole episode smacks of delusion! They really don’t know how to play the game at all. There is a belief that they are a real government and important to a company like EasyJet!

Yesterday 3fm reported that Loganair has been put up for sale, and the NPM has reported this. What’s the betting that our clowns within IOMG, both politicos and civil servants will be salivating at the thought of spending hard earned taxpayers cash - especially from the reserves, on the grounds that it’s a national lifeline.

Don't care who owns what as long as there is more than a 20% chance you will get to or from your destination on the same day you planned. And perhaps even one day on time

I shudder at the thought of our government running anything like an airline!

Whole rafts of backside covering legislation would be rushed through Tynwald making just taxiing down the runway impossible!

We are already there, that's why 03 / 21 is closed ! We might as well put up a large sign the IOM where our civil service and government together cannot run anything at all !!
