John Wright
And, now the LoganAir underwriting has ceased, and there’s no competition because Flybe have pulled off the LHR route for the next 5 months, there can’t be any commercial confidentiality justification to refuse release of the amount paid for underwriting. After all the passenger figures IoM LHR are published. Airline operators will have an idea of operating costs. They’ll have an approx idea of break even load factors. Presumably a Freedom of Information request could be made for daily numbers and number of flights.

Shame about Flybe but these aircraft delivery delays have been long standing.

Does another 5 months monopoly strengthen their hand ( they get all the traffic - no need for subsidy ) or weaken it ( there’s no alternative so you’ve got to subsidise us or we will stop )? I don’t know! I hope no more subsidy.

Numbers of LHR pax by month 2022: May 895 Jun 2689 Jul 2651 Aug 2903 Sep 2708 From IOM Airport figures. I can't see how commercial confidentiality would prevent IOMG giving the total amount paid out in underwriting, even if the contractual details are secret. So, a pretty constant 2700 a month except August. Problem is the underwriting wasn’t based on average occupancy ( at least thats what I understand ). It was to make loss making flights break even, a guaranteed seat income per flight. 2700 might be 19 flights full and the rest empty, or anything in between. But you’re correct. It shouldn’t be confidential. Hope the person submitting the FOI request appeals.

How on earth could they get to the point where the flights are due to start in a matter of days and pull it ? They were still advertising on Manx Radio only this morning . They are hardly covering themselves in glory with this .

The route was due to start next Tuesday what sort of company only knows a few days out that they don’t have sufficient aircraft to operate a new route . It’s a complete shambles.
