Airport.

Is it not partially to do with the fact we're sat in the middle of a fairly meaty storm today?

The south-southwest winds gale or severe gale force, giving gusts quite widely of 55-65mph, but with 70-75mph possible in more exposed spots.

I wonder if the pilot was a certain P Quine.

Does anyone know why 21 is shut, is it lighting or something else?

Chris Thomas said it was closed for safety reasons but don’t think he gave any specific details, Liverpool airport seems to be operating normally today!!

Err, its 70 miles to the south east...

Wind 14 kt from the South, varying between Southeast and South/Southwest

44 knts/50 mph at Castletown.  That's sustained, not gusts. Breezy.

Well yes, but you will note the wind direction is SW which Runway 21 caters for. Aircraft will or will not operate depending on their companies crosswind limits. I saw the wind earlier at 200 degrees 41 knots , that is a heck of a crosswind on runway 26, but hardly any on 21, hence the need for runway 21 over the winter months. Of course easyJet can't use it anyway but a lot of other traffic can and would.

To date 03/21 has been closed since 01 October 2022:

C5601/22 NOTAMN Q) EGTT/QFALC/IV/NBO/A /000/999/5405N00437W005 A) EGNS B) 2210010515 C) 2210312045 E) RWY 03/21 CLOSED

So why is it taking 3 months to sort whatever obscure 'safety' problem or mis-management issue out?

An absolute farce!

It’s to do with the fact that it is a cross runway - ie crosses another runway.

There must be procedures in place to ensure that only one runway is being used at any time.

Someone highlighted that the extant procedures were not up to the required standard, although they’ve worked for the last 50 years just fine.

ATC Management mentioned the issue to the local CAA, who instructed them to come up with a solution.

They haven’t, so local CAA told them they can’t use 21-03 until they do.

The rest is history.

Why don’t they ask other airports who have cross runways how they do it?

Well if no solution we’ve wasted yet more Money.
