Airport.

Love the airport and the usual cover up strategy , a friend was on the red eye, it was delayed. Terminal announcement said due to delay in inbound aircraft. On boarding, the captain said on the PA sorry for the delay there is no ATC cover !

Need to get the stories straight, maybe Cobb should hold a training course on untruths !

Finally, HIAL’s chief operating officer Gary Cobb.

When questioned on communications links, which are vital to the project, he stated that the CAA normally require three separate links between each airport and the Remote Tower Centre in Inverness.

He expressed confidence that HIAL can achieve those links within budget.

This is somewhat different to what he said at a virtual meeting organised by Angus MacNeil MP on 9 February. I attended that meeting along with my fellow petitioners, the HIAL MD, two CAA representatives and a representative of the Prospect union.

Moral of the story where the airport is involved if they tell you it's daylight, go outside and check !

I assume that you are referring to the early easyJet from, and back to, Liverpool?

It would have been here on time, but, as Flight Radar 24 shows,  it did a circuit over the Calf, and then looped back to make the usual approach from the Douglas direction, presumably killing time, until ATC cover was restored.

Technically the information your friend was given was correct, they just failed to explain the Airport’s role in the delay.

ATC currently closed. It closed at 1730 and opens at 1800.

Loganair holding overhead.

Two easyJet flights ready to depart but can't

This is getting ridiculous. Third world services.
Director and government need to address and rectify this situation as a matter of urgency.
Hope Loganair are billing Airport for extra fuel for holding overhead.

I was away for a meeting the other week. Total pain in the hoop for a few hours with a client. Delays on both the outgoing and incoming flights and the usual over zealous security people making up things to stave off the boredom and the ubiquitous depressing couldn't give a toss service from Costa Coffee.

As is Cobb's remuneration, Knob head should be on performance rated pay scale. Might actually try to improve services if it is taken out of his wage, and go and buy a can of three in one and oil them fucking wheels on the trolley's.

I complained about the trolleys to Tim Glover in December of 2021 . Acknowledgment from him and a promise to sort it out. . A further e mail from him that same night to say he'd passed it on to management . Over a year later !! . But we want 15k more in the population and they cant oil a few dozen trolleys. Mind blowing incompetence.  Oh but lets spend multi millions on refurbishing the Sea Terminal to house the muppets . Can of oil and 1 hour of anyone with half a brain and its sorted.

The good thing is that the rendezvous lounge ( if you have a card which gives access ) is open again..They are still having staffing  issues as some of the staff they recruited post covid have left.

But anything is better than giving my money to the Costa or the bar there.

Why do you need Karen's diner when we have the real life version in airport departures 🙂

It has never been possible to buy duty free when travelling between Great Britain and the Isle of Man.  They're both in the same duty regime - it would be no more legal than selling duty free on the bus from Ramsey to Douglas.

What there was was a long-standing UK concession where all air travellers were allowed to buy goods without VAT.  This dated back to the end of the 90s when duty free was abolished between EU states as a sort of subsidy to airports.  You were still expected to show your boarding card to show you were a bone fide passenger, though with increased security that may have fallen into disuse.

This concession seems to have been abolished when the UK formally left the EU at the start of 2021.  Presumably anything associated with the EU was tainted and the airports were already in such a financial mess anyway that another problem wouldn't be noticed.  You will however now be able to buy duty free stuff when flying to or from the EU at only twice the price it is in Tesco or three times the price in the EU country.

The issue may be that the assistant was slightly confused, or didn't make the reason clear to TVOR.  TVOR could buy the alcohol, but not duty free.  Or it may be that it was only priced at the duty free price and there was no option to apply the price with duty and so  which she could not sell it to him.

Easier to say no than to make an effort..Same as any place staffed with workers on minimum wage. Which is why you can often see a massive difference in the shopping experience inn family run firms.

With the alcohol at the airport the only ones you can buy while coming to the IOM are the ones which clearly says "Available to all passengers"

The choices are often limited and not everything is available in this version .
