Allinson really needs to get a grip on this fantasyland and stop them feeding him such nonsense.

It's been going on for a long time... here's what the airport projections looked like in 2006 !

In order to achieve these targets, passenger numbers must increase at an accelerated, sustained rate over an extended period of time. Assuming a project completion date in 2008, and a linear growth pattern, passenger numbers will have to increase by 9.3% per annum leading up to 2010, 11.8% p.a. over the next period to 2015, and a further 2.4% p.a. increase thereafter to reach the 2.5 million target by 2030. The International Air Transport Association (2007) have warned of slowed air travel growth and estimate global passenger numbers to increase by 4.5% per year over the next 25 years. Therefore to achieve the published targets, the airport would not only have to meet, but exceed industry growth by nearly 300% in some periods. It is important to highlight that not only has the airport failed to achieve industry standard growth historically, but has actually seen negative growth in numbers over the past 2 years.

They're right about the APD, the tax cut wouldn't get passed on to the consumer so there's no point doing it.

As for tourism, DfE always seem to compare us to Jersey. Other than both having efficient tax regimes, I don't see that many other similarities. It isn't cold and wet and windy in Jersey for most of the year. And Jersey has the attraction of being outside the customs union (although that will change now the EU is too).

The scenery here is as good as in the Lake District and Peak District, perhaps that's the way to be going. That said, the Lakes and Peaks are full of Dereks and Mabels who clog the place up but don't spend owt, so...

It certainly is, but won't be unless Government get a grip on developers ! We seem to be copying the UK and I always thought that being different was our prime attraction ! (sorry thread hijack) !

Give over everyone, the "airport" is a fecking joke, novelty value, so quaint etc.......same as if you fly into Koi Samui and timber roof airport........but HUGE difference, 10 mins later your cocktail, villa and sea beside you

We could do the same.....fantantic vogage into the depths of Celtic mystic, 2 mins to the magical Castletown, with its devilish walks within the castle, medieval adventure pulsing through you.

Truth

Where the "men" breed loads at a very young age so the girls can have a life on the dole, Do NOT visit the haven/ albert if you are an outsider.

Douglas - mheh, island men who suddenly think they are IT - this KILLS me. I know them all.....

but they have a good sushi bar!

But why would you pay £100's to travel here when you have the lake district (with actual lakes) and a peak district (with actual peaks)? The coaches are really just nostalgia trips. "Ooh look a proper phone box... a sweet shop with jars... humbugs please"

Much like the vaunted cruise ships. We are a curio, the odd little place thats a bit mad about motor bikes, kippers and a little bit dodgy when it comes to banking.

A bit like that odd cousin you see at family events who lives alone in a cottage is a bit eccentric and no-one ever quite understands how he makes his money but they all suspect it's a litle unsavoury, so they try not to mention it.

I'm still surprised none of our arty types ahve tried to do a Bergerac clone yet. Oh wait we had Mindhorn didn't we.

I think its a bit unfair to characterise the island in this way. If you want peaks there is Snaefell Mountain which beats anything in the Lake District it even has a railway going right up to the top. On a clear day you can see England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland something you will never see in the Lake District. There is also the steam railway and the electric tram to Ramsey. Then the beautiful beaches and coastline at Peel and Port Erin, the sights across Douglas Bay from Douglas Head. I think it would be better if we all started to get behind some of the things the island offers and encourage more people to come here that can only be a good thing for everyone.

We could offer guided trips up the promenade for those interested in civil engineering and associated accounting matters;

"The Story of Our Promenade and How We Built It 2014 - ?"

And just wait to see what we could offer with the Liverpool Terminal....

Something has to occupy the projected 500,000 visitors a year by 2032...

How many hotel beds do we have? Ramsey has one hotel AFAIK. 60 rooms assuming 2 per room so at capacity thats 120-150  guests and we are looking at 9,000 a week on average. So only 8,850 more beds to go or about 73 more Park Hotels worth. 👍
