Is it possible to upgrade IOM to Cat2?

Heard in the past it wasn’t possible due to location of transmitter  huts not having required clearance around them.  You would think it would be a definite on the “to do” list.

I’ve not heard that - and I think I would have if it were true.

Try this for a bit of light reading:

https://www.icao.int/EURNAT/EUR and NAT Documents/EUR Documents/EUR Documents/040 - European Guidance Material on Management of ILS Critical and Sensitive Areas.pdf

Then, take a back of a fag packet, come up with a cost estimate, and then multiply the amount by 10 as it will be another Parish Council project that can be fleeced by the potential vendors.

CAT2 is desirable but not essential. Unless airlines send a bill for diversion to the council, there's no incentive (on behalf of the Parish Council) to do anything; just take some flak a couple of times a year and issue some cretinous statements about wind and weather.

As I’ve said previously, we should have an airport that can, as far as possible, match the capability of the aircraft and crews who use it. At the moment, far more often than not, it is the airport which is the limiting factor in planes not being able to land.

The airport is one of our two links to the outside world - it should be capable of allowing travel more often than it is.

It beggars belief that he isn’t too concerned that one of the two ways of commuting to and from this island is in such a mess. When thought about, where are the basics like the airports continuity planning, their basic organizational skills?? Talk about a genuinely 3rd world here. It’s becoming awful. There are emerging very poor countries with better infrastructure, medical provision now.

Just take consolation that in 150 years, those now-emerging very poor countries will have peaked and will have slid down to where we are now.... 😂

Very true! I hadn’t thought of it in such a positive light! 😂😂😂😂

And no doubt talking about the myth of the sunken kingdom of Mannanan which was somewhere off the coast of Ireland and apparently after a particularly prolonged spell of bad weather was never heard from again. Ships and planes occassionally go missing in a persistent fog bank never to be seen from again.

A related mystery was a ship called the Manxman that was apparently found in mint condition adrift off Heysham after a heavy fog. The odd thing was on closer inspection the engines were found to be made from four Kia engines bolted to an old bus gear box with one word in Korean enscribed on it 'Ppalpan'.

Talking ot the Manxman has anyone else heard the rumour circulating about the additional weight of electric vehicles not being considered in the design?

This is a succinct says-it-all statement that you will not hear from any MHK.

There are already options for large / High cars  when you book a ticket to plan the load.

Large SUV 's are often heavier  than most EV's

But a normal load would consist of a few large SUV's amongst the mix whereas in a few years time it will be almost exclusively EV's, SUV's or otherwise.
