It is very prescribed, and involves a facilitated refresher on how to use the emergency equipment (fire axes, extinguishers and portable O2 bottles etc), a brief on the current security threat to transport and session on Crew Resource Management. You need no formal qualification to facilitate this training, you just need to let the training manager you are happy to do it. Being an SEP CAA examiner simply means you are trusted to mark the completed question papers and record the results. With all due respect to the person in question, the qualifications listed in that spiel in no way qualify you for a role as head of safety, IMHO of course. Ativa
No wonder people don’t want civil service or public office jobs. This place has now resorted to critiquing people CV’s and we wonder why the island struggles to attract quality candidates.

The Civil Service doesn't appear to concur with that opinion, it has no problem growing year on year with figures to prove it. We need candidates with above all, the RIGHT and RELEVANT qualifications. Putting people in post (which we seem to do everywhere) lacking those qualifications is why we are where we are. An airport that has had millions spent on it in the recent past by its senior staff, for example, but is now described by its Minister as, "Really being not very good".

We don't just need people with "the RIGHT and RELEVANT qualifications" we need people who can demonstrate success and achievement in their previous roles. This is especially so for jobs with words like "Head of" or "Director" in the job title. Again, this is an area where we haven't been very good, in the past. 6

Shouldn’t CVs be scrutinised by the people responsible for recruitment with at least a basic idea of what the various stated qualifications actually are? The document we are discussing here isn’t a CV. It is a post appointment introduction to the person. If they had put that they were deputy head of safety in x,y or z organisation for a number of years, then no eyebrows would be raised. But, I’m sorry, if you put down that you used to facilitate annual refresher training for airline crews and mark the exams as the only relevant previous experience, then that is a different matter.

NoTailT
Good job we have our new fancy upgraded landing system at the same old rating as the previous one. 1
madmanxpilot
All of today’s cancellations, as is so often the case, would likely not have happened with a properly equipped airport. From the METAR history I’ve just seen, the weather was workable with CAT2 for a couple of hours around lunchtime, and CAT1 with full lights for the rest of the time. Not much more to say really. 1
