I wonder if Gatwick would have been closed all night because of a spillage?

They certainly wouldn’t have been using their runway if it had a hydraulic fluid spillage on it.

One would expect, understandably, for them to have more resources at hand to clean such a mess up though.

Yes, saw that and was editing my post accordingly - seemingly in response to last night’s NOTAM announcing the closure until 1415L.

But it was reopened at 6.40, wouldn’t they have issued a new NOTAM ?

If Easyjet have committed to cancelling then reinstating it is filed in the too difficult pile.

Gatwick has two runways, which helps.

And Loganair were able to use our second runway.

So amongst an already messy period of time for the airport, we have a birdstrike causing an ATR to have a smashed up windshield and a hydraulic issue causing  rwy closure all within a matter of days.

I know they are issues that can't be linked, but I do sit and wonder if we are just a bit cursed sometimes. Maybe the crews didn't say hello to the faeries!

Two birdstrikes on the same day, nonetheless! (Albeit one less serious).

Isle of Man Airport would like to invite you all to take part in a sponsored plane push……

I have actually had to do that with a private jet at Ronaldsway!

Ronaldsway Airport hopes to bring its air traffic controllers up to full strength by September.

A Freedom of Information request asked how many ATC staff are needed, how many are currently working and how many are being recruited.

The airport says it need 16 operators but currently only has 14 - another four are due to start this year.

Of the 14 currently working, only eight are available for operational duty.

The figures come after Ronaldsway said the runway closed five times a day for air traffic controller rest periods because of staff shortages.
