A while ago a false alarm with the baggage scanners resulted in the roads around the airport being closed. Someone made an FoI request for the emergency plan but was denied on the grounds that terrorists would find things out.

So who knows what is in the plan?

There is no plan.

thing that struck me was the fact that not only does the airport itself not have the right ground handling asset/equipment to move the aircraft neither does Menzies.

Hydraulic leaks fail to safe, so rather than “not having the equipment” I imagine it was more that the hydraulic leak had completely disabled the 737. There will have been sufficient equipment here to handle it as the 737 had just been handled here.

Whenever I’ve seen 737s at Ronaldsway, they park so that they can move off under their own power, negating the need for a tug and bar.

March figures in my previous post here.  Note that IOM's cancellation level has remained about the same, while all the other ones dropped, which suggests better weather was a factor for them.

And that makes airlines wary of the place too. They are hardly likely to fall over themselves to meet the island’s demands to have delays thrust upon them, others jump up the pecking order.
We have an inflated opinion of our own importance as IoMG are playing games with our viability.

Coastguard rope training on the rock armour is because they were told there's no plan or training in case there's an aircraft incident in that area

Speaking from experience, that rock armour on the runway (and the Stabits on Douglas Breakwater) are deadly for the uninitiated. If anyone ever gets in trouble in the water near them, trust me, swim for the beach even if it's further away.  Unless you're a really confident rock climber, you're going to have to be rescued.

Totally correct and if there’s any swell or choppy sea or worse you’re going to get badly injured as you won’t be able to climb the Stabits as the weed, diesel  and likes will stop that.

The Minister for Infrastructure is to make an announcement on the new daily airport runway closures.

Chris Thomas will make a statement on the matter in Tuesday’s (June 27) sitting of the House of Keys which will start at 10am.

Both Douglas North MHK David Ashford and Arbory, Castletown and Malew MHK Jason Moorhouse will ask the infrastructure minister about the reduced airport opening hours and related issues.

It comes after a recent announcement from the Isle of Man Airport that the runway would close five times a day to meet the minimum rest requirements of air traffic control staff.
