Here's the Airport Board Information Pack:

Uploaded because these things tend to vanish after appointment.  Of course the whole Board idea is another example of IOMG belief that there's no problem that can't be solved by more layers of management and more meetings.

There's a rather ominous line about the Board having the duty to "ensure that route policy decisions presented by the Strategic Air Group (SAG) are implemented"  which sounds to me like the multi-million pound subsidies to routes/airlines that the 'business community' are insistent they have to have will continue[1].  One of the two is supposed to be a "Property/Commercial Specialist", so there are probably plans to flog/rent stuff off cheap to the right people.

However: The Board has no formal decision-making power, however, the Minister and Council of Ministers may receive recommendations and/or take advice from the Board.  So it's basically a pointless talking shop to make most of those involved feel important (and stop useful employees from getting on with their jobs).

[1]  Naturally they won't use them - they'll fly easyJet because it's cheaper.

If it was for unpaid holiday pay/wages/expenses it’d be an E&E Tribunal matter, unauthorised deductions, I’d presume.

I would have thought unauthorised deductions were E&ET as well - that was certainly the case with the poor Corpy guy who got stuck in Cyprus.  Maybe it's different when you're no longer an employee.  You'd assume it was some form of contractual agreement that didn't derive from employment, but what would be a mystery.

Maybe it's just that Spake doesn't know what he's doing or is chancing it.

There was an earlier case timetabled with a shorter time alloted, but it was vacated.  Not sure what that means.

Has the SAC SAG published any documentation?

Stuck in Gatwick all days because EasyJet cancelled the earlier flight from their schedule after I had booked it. What are the chances the evening one will actually go? Just what you want after 20 hours and two long haul flights. Another unnecessary 12 hour layover because we can’t get proper air connections sorted.

we had a collection for EJ if they kept you off island for a bit longer, we raised a fortune.

It’s worth noting they over 5000 people used the London City and Heathrow services in June that’s not an insignificant number . It’s also worth noting that these services represent the only sensible way to have a London day return flight or even on some days getting back to London at a reasonable hour . I don’t think there are many business people who would like the idea of getting back to London at 2am if they have been on business here ! But then again so many posters on here don’t realise it’s business people who bring investment to the island and help !

But over 15,000 used Gatwick, three times City and Heathrow together.  And more used Dublin than those two together.  I thought business people were all supposed to be terribly keen on the market.   If there's not enough traffic to support these routes, why should these allegedly well-off people demand subsidies?

@madmanxpilot gets my vote!

He/she'd have no chance, the sort of knowledgeable, experienced SME that civil servants detest because their lack of same is exposed for exactly what it is.

They will go out of their way to ensure that such people are debarred or at best ignored. Check out Rosalind Ranson for recent evidence.

Possibly it was a case management or preliminary hearing, maybe originally for a higher court and Spake decided to go the Small Claims route instead.
