That's a rough synopsis of how the island is where it is ! Our politicians frequently seem to spend inordinate amounts of time defending (and deflecting from) the overt failures of their Departmental staff though, that must make those politicians complicit?

Would this shambles of an airline (from the IOM perspective) really be missed? Nature, and especially the aviation world, abhors a vacuum Easyjet should should have been given 'an improve or you're out' ultimatum years ago. Mercenary
12 hours ago, IOM said: This statement absolutely encapsulates the problem we have and shows very flawed and shallow thinking in government if a Minister can post this . If it’s a filler service we should not be relying on it for a key lifeline route to London . Instead we need a more strategic approach to air services and be thinking of a better solution than a random service which if anyone where to look at the data they would easily see the ongoing service is abysmal. Completely agree current service is beyond unacceptable and nearly useless for travelling public. However to say the whole low cost carrier model doesn't work for the Island when for 10+ years (other than perhaps one summer) it served the IOM well with cheap fares and high reliability and reversed declining pax numbers and opened up travel to the masses does not wash for me. Rather than sort out the timetabling mess we need to move to an expensive Aurigny type model? The Flybe model failed repeatedly and was poor service throughout.
cheesypeas
Let’s look at talking to Aurigny then. Get a couple of ATR’s based here, and we should be able to make that work? Aurigny appear to be making a profit since losing their jet ( or jets).

Flybe’s issue was they did everything the low cost carriers did- huge hold baggage fees, stupid cabin bag restrictions- but crucially didn’t bother with the low starting fares. Loganair aren’t perfect but they’re much closer to what we need.

Flew with them on the Liverpool flight tonight. Obviously basic, no frills but a clean and tidy plane, perfectly suited, as you say... As we taxied to a stop, a bloke stood up before the seat-belt indicator went out, and quick as a flash, in strong Scot, a rather strident, tartan-bedecked, Doubtfire-esque stewardess came over the intercom, and barely disguising her astonishment at his brevity, and in almost-shout declared, "Err, the seat-belt light has nae gone out yet and you're standing up!" "Sit down and fasten your belt!" "Till the seat-belt light goes oot!" Travel-weariness showing, the bloke was oblivious that he was now the centre of attention and it could have looked as if he was deliberately ignoring her so she rapidly barked out the same order, with increasing disbelief. Even then it took a few seconds for him to realise, at which point, in a flash they simultaneously swapped roles; he hurriedly sat down looking like a guilty schoolboy as she braced herself, and, seat-belt unclipped, half-stood. Strong hands gripped the arm-rests, brow narrowing at the continued impertinent disobedience (like teachers of old would do). At that point, with almost comic timing, the seat-belt indicator went out with a ping. This cliff-edge drama was momentarily be-stilled, witnesses blinked and with some showing smiling-bemusement a quiet, polite and orderly disembarkation took place. You had to've been there, an'that... Anyway, ideal for the Island. 1

For someone who professes not to be miserable, there's an awful lot in life that pisses you off. I call bullshit on you not being miserable. It's not possible when you find so much to be miserable about.
