Currently there are 9 controllers able to work in both approach and tower roles, and 2 rated tower only.

One of the tower only rated controllers leaves next week, and a further tower and approach rated controller leaves in February.

Seems a very fashionable place to leave at the moment ! I wonder why.

You are quicker than me getting the information but I'm on holiday!. So....with that number of ATCOS ( controllers) it should still be possible to keep the airport open during scheduled hours. Unless...... there is an underlying management problem where the ATCOS do not agree good will.

Purely looking in from outside and backing my gut feeling. Underlying management problem is the issue.

All Aer Lingus Belfast City to IOM flights have gone to "sold out" from April 2024. Being cut totally perhaps?

Very probably. EasyJet hoover up the weekend traffic with their big capacity jets, and the route is otherwise pretty thin. I understand it was a commercial venture from Emerald and not part of the Aer Lingus contract. Clearly hasn’t worked.

And I suspect the management issue is not at Airport Director level, either. It’s been interesting what has come out in relation to Spake, especially as things have got worse and not better since both he and Reynolds departed.

Quite unbelievable! More ATC closures. Someone should ask ( MHK?) to see the shift roster in order to understand what the problem is. It is quite feasible to operate ATC at Ronaldsway without a radar controller under what we know as "procedural" control. Allbeit at reduced capacity, but  given the low level of traffic, this should not be a probem.

They don’t like the boss is my guess so just doing there required shift without helping him in any way. Just a hunch ….
