The airports de icing arrangements were broken. Thanks Gary ! LOL

Can’t imagine how much Loganair will claim from Menzies . It really does have the feel of everybody being asleep at the wheel surely an airports team including management, Menzies , Loganair etc could have asked themselves the question are we prepared for the winter and is everything working . It’s really not difficult!

Loganair have cancelled Liverpool, Manchester and Birmingham so far today.

Easyjet operated their Gatwick service earlier.

Good that the airport is open.

Thank God we've still got easyJet. LOL

Nope, but he's obviously a shrewd guy !. Do you deal with these people regularly ? I do, and frankly the airport has had enough of incompetents and dreamers whose sole interest is self promotion and utter bullshit !

Do you think the Civil Servants we employ are value for money ? How many of the useless tools are on six figure salaries in charge of departments whose output is pitiful ! Do you not think for the amount of money we spend on Government and administration here that things should be better ? Again I do.

Stop crawling to them and open your eyes, or are you part of the problem.

Does it not irk you that the phrase that triggered my response was "Menzies" de-icing equipment was broken, the language of the school yard, it wasn't me it was Johnny !

Surely to goodness someone is responsible for the smooth running of the place as a poster said above it's not the first time. In a few hours last night Inverness ground crew pumped 800 litres of deicing fluid onto a very few aircraft and got them away. No one spent their days finger pointing. If we had more people who were prepared to stand up and be counted, we wouldn't be in the state we are as an airport and as an island !

If Cobb was a half decent or competent manager, he'd be asking Menzies, and any other third party suppliers, every Monday, "Is your de-icer (or insert other operationally critical kit) working and available this week?"

This 'not my job' caper isn't good enough when it's the reputation of 'his' airport and the wider Island.

Plus, he needs Loganair and easyjet, so he should have enough sense to try and head off issues that might upset them, or cost them money, even if he's not directly responsible.

But it is literally nothing to do with him.  The contract is between the airlines individually and Menzies.  Menzies would be perfectly entitled to tell him not to interfere.  The decision that the Airport should no longer provide ground-handling services was made before he arrived.

Plenty of people here who have never operated unusual machinery on island.

Stuff breaks, normally when you least want it to.

In the UK you phone someone and have a new part in a few hours, it’s not that simple here unfortunately and it’s often not cost effective to keep spares of everything, or you might even need to fly or ferry an engineer in.

Contractually yes it’s not his direct responsibility. However I would expect there to be regular and ongoing dialogue between all relevant parties to ensure everything is in place as it should be . It’s nonsense to think that they all operate entirely separately and never talk to each other !
