In PR terms, thats calling ‘managing the message’. Trouble is that they are piss poor at it.

This was planned months ago

Busses don't even go in that lane. So any near miss (if there was 1). Must have been in the bus lane??

Mercenary
Should be focusing on passenger experience and in my opinion the dropoff/pickup is a large part of that for many people. Isle of Man Airport at its best is that you leave the doors, jump in a car outside and are home within 15 minutes. The car park has very tight radius, overgrown bushes and narrow lanes which are not made for flowing dropoff traffic. Imagine trying to route everyone into the hospital car park, it would be a similar effect. The focus should be on low budget solutions to smarten the place up (see @Amadeus's regular suggestions), and listening to passenger feedback. Or just come out and charge for dropoff if they are desperate for revenue - don't just make it more cumbersome to use for passengers. 4
Two-lane
Ah, I now understand. The queues in car park 1 will be so bad that it will take more than 15 minutes to drop/pick-up someone. People will drive into the car park, get stuck in the queue, have no mobile phone to register, cannot leave the car to go into the airport building, get loaded with a penalty fee. There will be traffic wardens walking alongside you with stopwatches clocking you. Of course, there will be the elite who actually pay to use the exclusive part of the car park, and they will get stuck in the queue and miss their flight. This will require a new plan. 1
asitis
Maybe the local representation on the airport consultative board can make some sense of the plan ? Oh hang on .......

Roger Mexico
It's the sheer incoherence of it that exposes it. Basically they're complaining that there is congestion when there are two lanes available, so they're going to solve the problem by making only one lane available. Which is the narrower of the two (I can't see anything getting past a bus). And will constantly people trying to leave/re-join it. How long it has been planned I'm not sure. The DoI tends to spend years having long meetings about stuff and then throws something together at last minutes that doesn't work. But it's interesting that the plan on the Facebook post says "Inside lane closed (except for disabled drop-off)", but now we're told they'll have to crawl over from the car-park. So that looks like a last minute change. Edited May 30 by Roger Mexico Add link
Banker
If the passengers are disabled they can still be dropped off outside along with patient transfers, if people are that bothered get a taxi or bus! Anyone fit could just be dropped off at Freeport area and walk with cases, you see 00s walking along roads in various UK airports with cases as you can’t even drop off near airport without large fine . Why does everyone expect everything to be free just because it’s the Isle of Man? Also you have to pay for car parking at UK hospitals even staff in some of them .

So that looks like a last minute change. And, there’s your answer. Stop the buses using either lane. It’s the buses that are the problem. The plan and the text don’t tie up. The text says the inner lane will have barriers and security staff and nothing will be allowed through. It says buses and disabled drop off /pick up will be in the outer lane. Why can’t the buses use the inner lane? The security can allow them through the barriers. The plan shows disabled drop off still in the inner lane.
