You'd assume they'd actually test themselves.  Whilst highly annoying, I can't see what else they could do if they're all sick.  Do you really want someone who might be a bit squiffy directing a plane with a couple of hundred people on?

Bit embarrassing if any of the British-Irish Council delegates are due over today.

I’m not agreeing with the comments, just posting what’s being said by others.

Lots of comments on social media saying it’s a cold and they should be at work, island is a shambles etc

If they feel like we do, in no way should they be anywhere near responsible for ATC !

5 ATC staff off sick today, no resilience,

There is a small number of staff, working together. One person is infectious but does not yet show symptoms and infects others, and so on.

I do not think this is avoidable..

Problem with that is that it’s a rational response, @asitis.   Rational thought goes out the window here, when PS/covid/sickness absence is mentioned.   Apparently PS can’t be off sick - and covid will always be assumed to be a lie.

Since Covid I've found the decision to go in or stay off far more difficult. I almost never used to be off sick - handful of days in 25 years, if I had a cold I'd still go in except if operating (learnt that lesson as a very junior trainee).

But now, you go in with a slight sniffle and people look at you suspiciously. Far more likely to be off these days. I have a cold right now - not Covid - and am in work. Generally not wanting to let people down trumps being looked at suspiciously. As long as I feel well enough obviously.

Loganair cancelled London City this morning.

easyJet Liverpool service this morning arrived almost 2 hours late due to ATC restrictions at the arrival airport according to their tracker

The attitude seems to be the reverse on MF - with some correspondents, anyway.   If you work in the Public Sector (as indeed you do!) you could be off with bubonic plague and it would still be assumed here that you must be a skiving civil servant, throwing a sickie.

I imagine you’ll get a free pass, as a medic! 🙂

No, the absences are not avoidable, but IOM ATC is still not at full strength with qualified ATC. If they were there might have been someone else to pull in.

Didn’t Cobb say this was all due to be sorted by now?

Of course if the guy in charge could control aircraft that may have helped too !

Do people really expect a small team doin a very specialist job under a huge number of rules and regulation regarding when they cans and can’t work, should have enough resilience built in to accommodate 5 unexpected absences on the same day?

Most jobs you would just reduce the workload for a few days.  They can’t do that they have rules about hours worded, breaks and how long on shift etc plus minimum numbers who must be there.

The people moaning are probably the same ones who moan about government headcount and wage bills.

Some times shit just happens.  This is one of those times.

Some of the moaning on Facebook is pathetic
