Who will continue to behave in the same way and remain nameless.

I've just been watching the opening of UK Parliament on the news. Labour announce the introduction of a, "Hillsborough Law" introducing a duty of candour for all public servants.

Chances of such over here being applied to our band of liars, incompetents and thieves...?

Perhaps German airports are much nicer. Why don’t you fuck off back there you annoying prick ? Even the cash points probably work.

Forestboy, ya shouldn't laugh.

Probably an unfortunate childhood.

There’s already published standards here called seven principles of public life based on Nolan reports in UK and UK have exactly the same principles! Worked well with Boris & co 😂

You can have as many standards as you like but if individuals ignore them well it’s not going to stop them.

Nolan is only advisory or wishful though, not legally binding. But at least now UK appears to be making steps to rectify.

I bet our shower won't be in any hurry to implement anything like this...

Looks like your complaints paid off!  Is this a newly created role this week?  I doubt that its as a result of someone being fired, I assumed that they outsourced maintenance

I would prefer more routes and enhanced frequencies rather than new chairs and carpets. The priority should be lower  airport fees and no airfield closures.

Frankly, I don't see carpets and chair as a priority compared to the above

Here's the Manx Radio report:

Airport departure lounge to get an upgrade
Wednesday, 17 July 2024 10:48

Bosses have "secured a solution" for the facility

Airport bosses say the departure lounge at Ronaldsway Airport will soon get an upgrade, subject to agreements being signed.

The update comes after people took to social media recently to comment on conditions at the facility.

Posters highlighted the dirty, stained and ripped chairs in the departure lounge – describing them as 'embarrassing'.

Others described them as ‘disgusting’ and ‘scruffy’ or said they were ‘embarrassed’, or had ‘seen better in third world countries’.

Some even added that they had emailed the airport to complain about this.

In a statement, Airport Director Gary Cobb told Manx Radio: "The airport has been aware for some time that certain areas are not in optimal condition.

"Funding has been a significant issue, as any available money has been required to maintain safety-critical areas of the airport to ensure it remains open and operational.

"Consequently, other areas, such as customer experience, have suffered. However, the airport has now secured a solution for the departure lounge, and we hope to announce this soon, once agreements have been signed."

He added: "We also have several opportunities for businesses to sponsor areas of the terminal, which will help promote their business and improve the customer experience, like Island Escapes have done with the water fountain.

"If anyone is interested in these opportunities, please contact airportads@gov.im."

We've seen this before from Cobb and the Airport where they had to scrabble around for cash to replace the baggage trolleys.  As ever there's no money for maintenance and wear-and-tear replacement - only big projects that will result in overpriced contracts for the right people are acceptable.   Presumably the safety-critical stuff was only obtained by threatening to close the place down.

There may be another thing.  Other DoI vanity projects such as the Prom and the Liverpool Terminal have gone massively over even their last estimates, and they have been unwilling to get further money from Tynwald as that would mean admitting just how truly useless they are.  So other DoI budgets may have raided to fill the voids and normal services to the public cut back to pay for fecklessness by the big project people.  Who will continue to behave in the same way - only bad behaviour is ever rewarded.

So what do we pay the passenger tax/duty for? Clearly not for airport maintenance or security, is it?

£900,000 received last year for parking should have covered maintenance...unless of course the DOI have been had over a barrel with the costs for the ringgo app!

Certainly some of those takings should/could have been channelled towards upkeep, regardless of Ringo's "take". Perhaps the question should be, "What other priorities absorbed those takings?".
